Job Description

INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE & EXPECTATIONS
Duration:
One academic semester (approx. 12-16 weeks).
Hours:
16-32 hours per week, scheduled around class commitments.
Work Environment:
On-site at RML Hinsdale/Chicago - IS Dept.
Training:
Structured onboarding and role-specific instruction provided.
Evaluation:
Interns meet regularly with their supervisor for goal-setting and formal feedback.

GENERAL SUMMARY
The IT Intern will work alongside RML s Information Technology team to support day-to-day technical operations across the hospital. This role is designed for current college students pursuing degrees in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Engineering, Programming, or related fields who want hands-on experience in a healthcare environment. The internship provides exposure to enterprise systems, service desk operations, device management, and clinical/administrative technology used throughout
RML. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Support & Troubleshooting Assist with responding to IT support tickets and helpdesk requests. Diagnose and resolve common hardware, software, and network issues. Provide end-user support for computers, mobile devices, printers, and peripherals. Device Deployment & Maintenance Support the setup, imaging, and deployment of Windows workstations and laptops. Assist in maintaining equipment inventory and tracking assets. Participate in lifecycle activities such as device upgrades, replacements, and decommissioning. Systems & Network Support Help monitor system performance, connectivity, and availability. Assist with user account creation, permission updates, and onboarding tasks. Support routine maintenance activities under the guidance of senior IT staff. Project-Based Work Some project scopes may vary by semester. Update documentation and standard operating procedures. Assist with cybersecurity initiatives such as phishing awareness, MFA rollout, or audit readiness. Participate in IT improvement projects-device cleanup, system migrations, or infrastructure updates.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Preferred Skills and Abilities 1. Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical users. 2. Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn. 3. Basic understanding of Windows operating systems and common productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft 365). 1. Experience with helpdesk or customer service environments. 2. Familiarity with networking fundamentals (IP addressing, Wi-Fi, basic troubleshooting). Knowledge and Experience 1. Strong interest in technology support and IS operations. 1. Exposure to Active Directory, device imaging, or ticketing systems. 2. Coursework in cybersecurity, systems administration, or software support. License & Certifications 1. Current enrollment in a college or university program pursuing a degree in IS, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security, Engineering, Programming, or equivalent. None specified. Working Conditions Work is performed on-site at RML Specialty Hospital across the IS office, patient-care areas, and administrative locations.
