Advanced experience in imaging, configuring, troubleshooting, updating, and deploying Windows and macOS operating systems and applications within enterprise or educational environments. Advanced experience diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software issues on both Windows and Apple devices. Proficiency with device encryption tools (e.g., Bitlocker, FileVault). Customer service experience providing multi-level technical support to end users, both remotely and in person. Ability to maintain accurate records of asset intake, computer order preparations, deployment activities and customer interactions in the ticketing system. Proven ability to manage many projects and priorities at the same time in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational, time management, documentation and communication skills. Ability to lift, transport and setup up hardware, including computers and peripherals by walking or using university vehicles to various locations across multiple campus locations. Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff or student workers. Experience collaborating with other teams and technical contacts on various projects and implementations. Must be willing to work additional hours, sometimes with little advanced notice, to complete projects and meet deadlines.Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with imaging tools such as Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM), Jamf or Microsoft Intune Familiarity with uploading and integrating drivers into system images for compatibility and hardware support. Familiarity with the maintenance and updating processes for operating system image files in Windows environments. Experience with managing computers via Microsoft Active Directory and/or Azure AD (Entra ID) environments. Experience using a service management and/or asset management solution (e.g., Cherwell, Team Dynamix-TDX). Thorough understanding of computer systems, IT components, and security. Experience with computer backup solutions such as CrashPlan and/or OneDrive. Experience managing the full asset lifecycle of computing assets, including intake, imaging, deployment, inventory tracking, lifecycle refresh planning, and asset retiring. Proven ability to maintain accurate asset records, coordinate deployments, and support asset retirement processes, including data sanitization, with a focus on security, compliance, and documentation.Job Description:
The IT Assistance Center (ITAC) Managed Services department within the division of Information Technology is seeking a highly qualified, detail-oriented and proactive System Support Specialist II to join our dynamic team. This position plays a key role in supporting the full lifecycle of campus computing assets, including intake, imaging, deployment, maintenance, and retirement of Windows and Apple systems. This role is responsible for the preparation, configuration, and delivery of computing equipment across campus, ensuring devices are properly imaged, secured, and tracked. As part of the Managed Services Team, the position supports inventory management, refresh initiatives, and asset retirement processes. Primary responsibilities include advanced technical support for devices across Windows and Apple platforms; diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues; installing and maintaining operating systems, encryption tools, drivers, and system images; and coordinating deployment activities. The position also supervises trains, and coordinates student workers assisting with device preparation and delivery. This role collaborates closely with the Asset and Logistics team, and the broader university community to provide consultation on best practices and advanced technical solutions, while offering backup support across lifecycle and inventory functions to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.Job Duties:
Prepare, install, configure and update Windows, macOS and iOS operating system and applications. Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues on University-owned devices (Windows and Apple). Conduct field service calls to set-up computers including peripherals, install software, and migrate files for faculty and staff. Maintain operating system images and drivers for Windows devices. Take steps to maintain the health of IT infrastructure through security best practices. Provide advanced technical support and consulting to a very diverse user base. Supervise, provide guidance, training and schedule student workers to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. Provide backup support for inventory management and other lifecycle functions as needed. Work with vendors and outside technical contacts to implement reliable solutions to a variety of technical issues. Create and maintain written logs, reports, procedures, and documentation on work performed. Work closely with others in a team as well as independently. Perform other duties as assigned.
