SATCOM SME
to support the MSEIT contract at Space Systems Command (SSC). This role serves as the primary SATCOM domain expert embedded with Agile development teams, helping translate operational needs into technically informed product backlogs and mission-relevant software capabilities. The Product Owner will work closely with users, architects, systems engineers, and development teams to ensure that software increments align with evolving SATCOM mission needs and enterprise modernization objectives. The role requires deep understanding of military and commercial SATCOM ecosystems, including emerging architectures supporting resilient and proliferated space communications. Why Join Us?

Standard Responsibilities:
Backlog Ownership:
Develop, maintain, and prioritize Agile product backlogs for SATCOM-related software and integration efforts.
SATCOM Subject Matter Expertise:
Provide technical and operational SATCOM guidance to development teams, SE&I personnel, and stakeholders throughout the software lifecycle.
Mission Translation:
Translate operational SATCOM concepts, user needs, and mission priorities into actionable features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
Cross-Team Coordination:
Collaborate with systems engineering, integration, cyber, and DevSecOps teams to ensure mission and technical alignment across development efforts.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Interface with operators, government stakeholders, OA representatives, and mission partners to refine requirements and support capability prioritization.
PI & Agile Participation:
Participate in Program Increment (PI) planning, backlog grooming, sprint planning, and Scrum of Scrums activities as the functional SATCOM authority for assigned capabilities.
Capability Evolution:
Help shape future SATCOM capabilities consistent with enterprise architecture, operational modernization goals, and evolving threat environments.
Technical Clarification:
Support developers and integrators by clarifying operational workflows, mission dependencies, and SATCOM integration considerations.
Required:
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, systems engineering, physics, or related technical field 15+ years of experience in SATCOM systems, mission operations, systems engineering, or related defense programs Deep understanding of DoD SATCOM mission areas, including Protected, Wideband, Narrowband and Commercial SATCOM Familiarity with emerging Protected Tactical SATCOM (PTS/PTE) architectures and modernization efforts Understanding of commercial SATCOM providers and architectures across orbital regimes including GEO, MEO and LEO Experience working directly with operational users, mission stakeholders, or military SATCOM programs Familiarity with Agile development environments and backlog-driven software delivery processes Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Desired:
Active Secret or higher clearance Familiarity with SAFe®, Scrum, Kanban, or other Agile delivery frameworks Understanding of SATCOM ground systems, network management, mission planning, or C2 systems Exposure to DevSecOps, cloud-native architectures, or Kubernetes-based mission platforms Familiarity with digital engineering, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), or requirements traceability practices Familiarity with proliferated LEO operational concepts and transport-layer architecture Understanding of AI-enabled mission systems, automated network orchestration, or autonomous SATCOM operations Experience supporting Space Systems Command (SSC), Space Operations Command (SpOC), or related U.S. Space Force programs Experience serving as a Product Owner, mission lead, or operational SME within Agile software development teams Experience using tools such as Jira, Confluence, or related Agile collaboration platforms Experience supporting hybrid military/commercial SATCOM integration efforts Experience supporting acquisition, experimentation, or rapid capability insertion programs within DoD space environments Certifications such as
INCOSE CSEP/ESEP
Basic Compensation:
$148,000 to $185,000 in Colorado Springs, CO and $162,000 to $203,000 in El Segundo, CA The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
