As our Payments Product Owner , you are the guardian of the financial lifecycle. You will bridge the gap between complex card-network logic and the mission of conservation and outdoors access and enjoyment, ensuring every transaction, from a $10 fishing license to a premium campground reservation, is seamless, secure, and perfectly reconciled. Your work directly ensures that state funds are accurately captured to support outdoor recreation and environmental improvements. The Role The Product Owner serves as the tactical engine of the Agile process, reporting to the Payments Product Manager. You are accountable for translating high-level payment strategy into flawless technical execution. In addition to being an agile practitioner the ideal candidate is a fintech native with hands-on experience in accounting-ledger controls, payment gateways, payment regulations and security, and payment cost optimization required for high-volume financial reconciliation. You understand that in payments, a $0.01 discrepancy isn't a minor bug, it's a blocker.
Key Responsibilities Backlog & Technical Execution:
Own, refine, and prioritize the sprint backlog. Partner with product management to translate the product vision into tactical sprint reliable and predictable sprint execution.
Ledger & Reconciliation Integrity:
Partner with Engineering, Product Management and Business Analysts to implement and maintain precise accounting-ledger controls that ensure our systems provide the data integrity required for automated reconciliation and transparent stakeholder reporting.
Agile Leadership:
Balance Agile delivery with the rigor required for regulated financial systems, ensuring speed never compromises accuracy, traceability, or compliance. Lead sprint planning, daily stand-ups, grooming, and retrospectives. Utilize standard sprint reporting (e.g., burndown charts) and multi-sprint planning to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery. Quality & Acceptance (UAT): Own UAT sign-off for payment-related features, ensuring reconciliation accuracy, audit readiness, and zero tolerance for data integrity defects. Hold teams accountable for "Definition of Done" that includes security and data accuracy. What You Will Need 2-4 years of experience with demonstrable ownership of complex payment or reconciliation systems
Fintech Domain Knowledge:
Demonstrated proficiency in managing software that handles high-volume transactions and complex financial reporting. Experience with payment gateways, card-network integrations, or ACH processing.
Analytical Rigor:
Strong ability to break down ambiguous business needs into strategic, logic-based product solutions.
Agile Mastery:
Advanced experience managing complex backlogs within an iterative software development lifecycle.
Communication:
Interpersonal savvy to act as a bridge between "Finance speak" and "Developer speak."
Bonus Experience:
Expert familiarity with general ledger concepts or financial reporting systems Experience integrating with third-party processors (e.g., Stripe, CyberSource, Global Payments, etc.) Compensation & Benefits The selected candidate will be placed at a Staff II to Senior I level based on demonstrated payments domain expertise -
Starting Salary Range:
$85,000.00 - $95,000.00 (Based on expertise and experience).
