Job Description
Job Summary The Department of Computing and Software Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) invites applicants for an Assistant Professor appointment starting August 2026. We seek individuals with enthusiasm for teaching and a desire to engage students in the classroom and laboratory on subjects primarily in computer science and software engineering. As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing and Software Engineering, you will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in our undergraduate Software Engineering and our undergraduate and graduate Computer Science programs starting this Fall 2026. The department has a strong focus in AI, data science and cybersecurity, and are seeking a strong candidate with a focus area in AI and cybersecurity. The department is housed in the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering, which is dedicated to quality education, scholarship, and service. All faculty are expected to be excellent teachers who are committed to innovative delivery of instruction that results in improved student learning; be committed to effective use of technology including distance learning; produce peer reviewed scholarship; and provide service to the College, University and Community. Teaching:
Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of computer science and software engineering.Scholarship:
Demonstrate successful productivity in scientific, engineering and/or educational scholarship over time.Service:
Performs service within the university as well as within their professional community.Additional Job Description Required Qualifications:
An earned Doctorate in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or in a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation. Must possess a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline from a regionally accredited institution.Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching and research interests in disciplinary areas that complement and/or supplement the expertise in AI and cybersecurity within the Department of Computing and Software Engineering. Prior experience in teaching, research, industry, and/or extramural funding.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate software engineering and computer science courses, and mentor students. Ability to publish in regional, national, and international venues appropriate to the discipline. Ability to deal effectively with a various range of learners and to use information technology as a pedagogical and professional tool. Skills in working in a rapidly developing regional comprehensive university with a focus on creating a student-learning environment among various academic disciplines. Potential for success and achieving excellence in university teaching, scholarship, and service. Potential to develop grant proposals and seek extramural funding. Interest in collaborating both within and outside of the university in the development and delivery of instruction. A commitment to collaborate with other faculty to develop a shared vision of the future. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning and/or scholarly activities. Must value continued scholarship and service to the department, college, and university. Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity. Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable.
