Job Description

Job Description A client of ours is looking to add an Elixir Software Engineer to their growing team. This individual will own the design, development, and deployment of complex distributed system features end-to-end, supporting mission-critical spacecraft ground control systems. They will drive architectural decisions for Elixir/OTP-based systems, ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, and performance across the platform. On a daily basis, they will proactively identify and resolve technical debt, system reliability issues, and performance bottlenecks, while writing high-quality, production-ready code that sets the standard for the team. This engineer will also conduct thorough code reviews and mentor junior team members, providing constructive feedback and guidance. They will collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to define solutions, break down complex initiatives into iterative deliverables, and ensure efficient execution. Additionally, they will document system designs and architectural decisions to support knowledge sharing and long-term scalability of the platform. This position will be hybrid 3 days on-site in either Centennial, Colorado or Long Beach, California. This role is offering a base salary of $160,000-$275,000k based on years of experience. Skills and Requirements 7+ years of professional software development experience Expert-level experience with Elixir and OTP (BEAM internals, GenServers, supervision trees, scheduling, runtime performance) Strong experience building fault-tolerant, distributed systems at scale Deep understanding of system design, service architecture, and API design (gRPC, REST, WebSockets) Hands-on experience with testing strategies (ExUnit, property-based testing, integration testing) Experience identifying and resolving performance issues, bottlenecks, and reliability risks Proven ability to own features end-to-end (design → development → deployment → iteration) Strong collaboration skills working cross-functionally with product, engineering, and operators Experience working in Git-based environments with strong code review and quality practices Ability to obtain a DoD Secret or TS/SCI clearance Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field Experience serving as a technical lead or principal backend engineer Deep knowledge of advanced OTP patterns (dynamic supervisors, registries, distributed process groups, actor model) Experience building real-time, mission-critical systems (telemetry, data processing, high-availability systems) Exposure to security patterns (OAuth2, RBAC) Strong experience with PostgreSQL (schema design, optimization, scaling) Experience with observability and monitoring tools (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) Familiarity with frontend and infrastructure concepts to support full-stack collaboration Prior experience in aerospace, defense, or highly regulated environments (nice to have, not required)
