Job Description:
Intern•Web Applications Unit Paid internship … Gain valuable experience while going to school! Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is now accepting applications for an Intern position in the IT Department. This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience in enterprise IT operations while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment. This is a paid internship with an hourly salary of $16.00 per hour. This Intern position is available to full-time students only. The Intern can work a flexible schedule with a maximum of 24 hours per week during the school year, and 40 hours per week during the school breaks.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with research and exploration of new and emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development and automation tools Support innovative design and programming initiatives across web-based applications Contribute to development and testing of integrations between systems using: APIs (RESTful and other modern frameworks) Direct database connections Middleware and other integration approaches Participate in prototyping and proof-of-concept development for new tools and solutions Assist with data quality efforts, including: Data cleanup and normalization Identifying inconsistencies and improving data integrity Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business units to understand needs and propose technical solutions Document processes, findings, and technical implementations

The intern will have opportunities to work alongside IT professionals across multiple technology disciplines as time and project needs allow. Interns who demonstrate focus, effective time management, and sound technical judgment may gain exposure to: Exposure to real-world government IT systems and operations Hands-on experience with modern development practices and tools Practical understanding of system integration and data workflows Experience working with AI-assisted development and emerging technologies Opportunity to contribute to impactful civic technology initiatives Integration of multiple software datasets using middleware and/or AI technologies.
Qualifications:
Current enrollment in an accredited college or university program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field Basic understanding of programming concepts (e.g., JavaScript, Python, or similar) Familiarity with web technologies (HTML, CSS, basic frameworks) Interest in learning about APIs, databases, and system integration Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Exposure to REST APIs or web services (desired) Basic knowledge of databases (SQL or NoSQL) (desired) Interest in AI, automation, or data engineering concepts (desired) Experience with version control (e.g., Git) (desired) Curiosity and willingness to experiment with new tools and technologies (desired)
