Job Description
Trondent Development Corp. is a veteran-owned SaaS company that has served the global business travel industry for over 30 years. Our platform powers travel management companies, GDS providers, online booking tools, and corporate travel programs around the world. We are a small, stable team building software that real businesses depend on every day. We are hiring a Software Engineer to join our on-site development team in Barrington, IL. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to do meaningful backend work on a mature product, learn modern tooling, and grow with a small company where your contributions are visible. About the work Our platform runs on a Go and Java backend with React on the front end, MySQL and Redis for data, and ActiveMQ for messaging, all containerized with Docker and deployed on DigitalOcean. We have a substantial Java codebase (both Java 8 services and newer Java 21 work) that needs ongoing maintenance and improvement, and we are actively building new functionality in Go. You will work across both, with the long-term direction leaning increasingly toward Go. What you will do Maintain and improve our existing Java services across Java 8 and Java 21 codebases Build new backend services and features in Go using the Gin framework Design and implement RESTful APIs that integrate with travel industry partners Work with MySQL, Redis, and ActiveMQ to build reliable, performant systems Participate in code review, debugging, and production support Contribute to architecture decisions as we modernize the platform What we are looking for 4 to 7 years of professional backend development experience Strong Java skills, with comfort working in both legacy Java 8 and modern Java 21 codebases Production experience with Go, or demonstrated Go projects and a clear willingness to make Go your primary language going forward Solid experience with relational databases (MySQL preferred) and RESTful API design Working knowledge of Docker and Linux Self-directed work style with the ability to take ownership of features end to end Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience Nice to have Experience with ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, or similar message brokers Familiarity with Redis beyond simple caching Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (we use GitLab CI) Background in SaaS, B2B software, or the travel industry Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus or Graylog What we offer Competitive salary, based on experience Full health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) plan Paid vacation and holidays A stable, profitable, small-team environment with no layoff churn Direct access to leadership and visibility on every project you work on A 30-year track record of building software that matters to a global industry Important details This is a fully on-site position in Barrington, IL. Five days per week in the office. We are not offering hybrid or remote arrangements. We are only considering candidates who currently live within a reasonable commuting distance of Barrington.
