- Full-time Overview As the Application Engineer, you will be responsible for hardware & software systems used in automated test facilities called test cells.
These test cells are controlled by CyFlex software. Most of the test cells used are to test and certify diesel engines; additional powertrain systems are tested such as gasoline engines, hydrogen engines, electric drivetrains, transmissions and entire vehicles on chassis dynamometers. This is a hands-on role, working directly with automated testing equipment, and the software that controls it. The Application Engineer will need to develop an understanding in many different areas and work with software development and test operations teams to implement various testing configurations, diagnose, and resolve problems with test equipment, and specify and document testing procedures.
Primary Responsibilities OVERALL:
Travel to customer sites for onsite commissioning of electrical, mechanical and software systems Present technical information to customers Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to determine the best solutions for different applications Troubleshoot and isolate problems to be electrical, mechanical, or software related and then work with the appropriate team for a resolution Set up data logging and analyze results to guide experiments Analyze overall reliability, durability, accuracy and safety of control systems and recommend improvements
SOFTWARE
Implement control solutions using CyFlex Troubleshoot issues customers related to CyFlex Work with the software development team to develop new solutions and address customer demands Coordinate with systems administration and IT teams to develop and deploy control solutions
ELECTRICAL
Design electrical control panels for controlling all functions within a test cell Work with panel builders to ensure panels are built to the design spec Work with electrical contractors to ensure panels are installed properly and field wiring is done correctly Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices. Job Functions Application Engineer will develop an above average understanding in the areas listed below. No candidate needs to have all of the skillsets listed below, though any current experience is a plus. This list encompasses the broad range of skills that will be developed through time working in this position.
Electrical systems:
Low voltage control wiring design and troubleshooting Measurement devices such as thermocouples, RTD's, flow meters, strain gauges, pressure transducers Electric motors and drives Background in AutoCAD Electrical for updating control drawings Mechanical systems: Air handlers' control, tuning and troubleshooting Rotational dynamics
- specifically dynamometer and engine control of speed and torque Designing temperature control systems for fluid and gaseous systems An advanced understanding of diesel engines DPF, SCR and EGR aftertreatment systems for diesel engines
Computer and Software:
Basic Linux system administration Communication protocols such as Modbus, Ether
CAT, CAN, UDP
streaming Basic familiarity with Wireshark or similar TCP/UDP monitoring software Knowledge of bash scripting syntax Python background a plus but not required Experience building drivers supplied by hardware manufacturers for Linux Opto22 PAC Manager basic setup Gantner Instruments test commander and GI bench setup experience You will learn and work with the following regulations in this position: Safety Integrated Systems and SIL ratings
