We are seeking a highly motivated API Development intern to join us for our summer internship program!
Role Description:
API Development Intern. We are seeking a highly motivated Application Programming Interface (API) Development Intern to support a key project that is working with the City of New York to modernize and automate a voucher-based system for low-income housing. Key Responsibilities:
Assist in System Design & Architecture:
Work with senior architects to understand and contribute to application architecture. Application Development Support:
Help develop, test, and refine software components in alignment with architectural best practices. Collaboration & Problem-Solving:
Work closely with developers, engineers, and business stakeholders to define system requirements. Performance Optimization:
Assist in identifying performance bottlenecks and improving system efficiency. Collaborate with team members using version control and standard development tools. General Qualifications:
Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in business, Economics, Computer Science, Public Policy, Journalism, Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field. Passion for technology and how it can improve our fellow citizens' wellbeing, create safer communities, and foster a thriving economy. Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize large amounts of information. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; experience with generative AI and data visualization tools is a plus. Self-starter with a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Technical Position Qualifications:
Understanding of Microservices Architecture and distributed systems concepts. Understanding of layered application design:
Data Access Layer, Business Logic Layer, and User Interface (UI). Basic understanding of object-oriented programming concepts with exposure to at least one language such as Java, C#, Python, C++, or JavaScript. Familiarity with common data formats such as XML and JSON, especially for APIs or data exchange. Introductory knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and awareness of responsive design principles; exposure to Bootstrap or similar UI frameworks is a plus. Basic understanding of data structures (arrays, linked lists, trees) and algorithms (sorting, searching). Fundamental knowledge of relational databases and SQL concepts; exposure to MS SQL databases is a plus. Familiarity with Git or other version control systems and experience using IDEs (e.g., Eclipse, IntelliJ, VS Code). Understands microservice Architecture Understands Data Access Layer, Business Logic Layer and User Interface (UI) The current hourly rate is $20.00. This position is classified as non-exempt, eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law.

If applicable to this role, all hires will be required to obtain a Federal Public Trust Clearance (Moderate Background Investigation). This clearance process may start upon offer acceptance; and must be cleared prior to working on these projects.
