Job Description
DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team building next-generation simulation tools and platforms for Amazon Robotics. In this role, you will manage a team of software engineers and data scientists, drive the technical vision and product roadmap, and deliver simulation capabilities that enable engineers and scientists across the organization to design, validate, and optimize robotic systems. You will champion modern software practices, reusable architectures, and AI-powered workflows to make simulation faster, more accessible, and more impactful. Key job responsibilities
Basic Qualifications
- Manage a team of software engineers developing simulation tools, frameworks, and platforms that serve diverse customers
- Define and execute technical roadmaps aligned with business objectives, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform investment
- Design and deliver reusable, modular software frameworks that scale simulation capabilities beyond the immediate needs
- Drive adoption of AI and generative AI to accelerate engineering workflows, improve developer productivity, and enhance simulation tools
- Collaborate with program teams, scientists, solution designers, and product managers to understand customer needs and translate them into product priorities
- Build self-service tools and platforms that enable users across multiple technical profiles and skill levels to run simulations independently
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle — requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations
- Mentor and develop engineers, providing technical guidance and supporting career growth
- Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate risks, and communicate status to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
- Stay current with advancements in simulation, robotics, and AI, and incorporate them into the team's approach A day in the life
- Lead a standup with the engineering team. Review sprint progress, address blockers, and align on priorities.
- Meet with simulation customers — scientists, solution designers, or program engineers — to understand their latest needs and gather feedback on current tools.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on the technical approach for a new platform capability, balancing extensibility with delivery speed.
- Conduct an architecture review, evaluating a proposed design for a reusable simulation component and providing feedback.
- Join a cross-functional meeting with program owners and data scientists. Provide a development update, discuss integration points, and align on timelines.
- Hold a 1:1 with a team member to discuss their professional development, review performance, and collaborate on career goals.
- Review team metrics — sprint velocity, delivery milestones, and customer adoption. Prepare a status update for leadership.
- Explore how a new AI capability could simplify a manual workflow the team or customers currently struggle with.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
- 3+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems, or experience debugging, profiling, and implementing best software engineering practices in large-scale systemsPreferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience developing, deploying and managing AI products at scale
- Master's degree in Engineering, Technology, Science, Operations Research, Robotics, Mathematics, or related fields, or PhD
