Job Description

Senior Mainframe Software Engineer (COBOL/DB2) Overview / Summary We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer with 10+ years of experience supporting and enhancing complex enterprise mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical leadership skills, extensive COBOL development experience, and the ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex production issues in a fast-paced environment. This role requires expertise in legacy mainframe technologies, production support, enhancement delivery, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will be comfortable balancing operational support responsibilities while contributing to ongoing application enhancements and modernization efforts. Key Responsibilities Assist with enhancement and new development initiatives, including research, analysis, functional and technical specifications, testing, and deployment activities. Provide operational support through issue triage, root cause analysis, and resolution of production incidents. Collaborate effectively with global and cross-functional teams. Maintain accurate system documentation and adhere to established coding standards, controls, and security policies. Participate in technical discussions with application teams and interfacing systems. Navigate complex technical challenges and develop practical, effective solutions. Support integration between legacy mainframe systems and modern technologies. Build strong working relationships with software engineers, product owners, and stakeholders. Provide technical leadership and guidance through complex technical situations. Contribute to Agile development activities and support continuous improvement initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor''s Degree. 10+ years of IT experience. 10+ years of COBOL development experience. Experience maintaining and supporting complex legacy applications. Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, z/OS, batch processing, and online processing environments. Experience with application development, application support, and production release activities. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills. Experience with acceptance testing and user acceptance testing. Knowledge of application design, data management, data integrity, data governance, and computer security principles. Experience working within Agile software development environments. Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Highly organized with strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Agile methodologies and Jira. Exposure to modern technologies such as SAP, Java, APIs, and JSON. Experience integrating legacy systems with modern platforms and technologies.
