JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an experienced Java Architect to support modernization of the CMDS Provider Portal platform. This role will focus on transforming a legacy Java EE/WebSphere application into a modern cloud-native platform on Azure while supporting critical Medicaid provider operations. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in enterprise Java architecture, API and event-driven systems, cloud modernization, and healthcare technology platforms. This is a hands-on leadership role working closely with engineering, product, and platform teams. Key Responsibilities Define application and integration architecture for provider platform modernization Lead modernization initiatives from legacy Java EE/EJB systems to Spring Boot microservices Design scalable REST APIs and event-driven integration patterns Guide cloud-native deployment architecture on Azure Support FHIR-based interoperability initiatives and healthcare integration requirements Establish engineering standards for resiliency, observability, security, and performance Conduct architecture and design reviews across development teams Mentor senior engineers and provide technical leadership across modernization workstreams Collaborate with Product, BA, DevOps, and security teams on solution delivery Required Skills & Experience 10+ years of experience in Java backend development 5+ years in Technical Lead or Architect roles Strong hands-on experience with: Java 17+/21 Spring Boot 3.x REST APIs and OpenAPI standards Microservices architecture Kafka or event-driven systems Experience modernizing legacy Java EE/EJB applications Strong database experience with Oracle and/or DB2 Experience with Azure cloud services including AKS and container-based deployments Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code Experience working in healthcare, Medicaid MMIS, or regulated environments Understanding of
HIPAA/HITECH
