Job Description
Rocket Software, Inc. is looking to fill a Senior Software Engineer position reporting to Rogers, Arkansas (May telecommute part of time from home residence within Rogers, AR metropolitan area). Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent accepted) in computer science or a related field and 12 years' progressively responsible experience in an IT-related occupation. Experience must include the following specific experience and skills:
12 years' software engineering experience. 8 years' experience in PL/1 (Programming Language One) on AS400/IBMi
8 years' background in IBMi OS on IBM Power Servers
8 years' experience in enterprise Java programming language. (Springboot, JT400)
8 years' experience with SQL Database (DB2)
5 years' experience with IBM i legacy product Modernization process.
5 years' experience with Software lifecycle management tools (Jira, Jenkins, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket.)
3 years' working experience in ANSI C++ and C.
Working experience in
IBM I CL/RPG
programming languages.
Proficient understanding Software DevOps domain knowledge and CI/CD workflow both on IBM i and Linux platforms.
Mastery of data structures and algorithms Excellent designing and coding skills
Able to write high-quality code rapidly. Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
Agile development methodologies
The Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, troubleshoots, debugs, and sets the direction for the design and implementation of software features/functionality/enhancements, correction of defects, and/or the creation of new products on IBM i platform. Your ability to collaborate effectively with other Rocketeers across geographies and technologies will be vital to retain our solutions as the premier technology in the IBM i World.
Mastery of software systems, proficient at architecture and design of new products, integrations, and features. Takes ownership of design and development of features for IBM i DevOps product. Lead a team on short or long-term projects as needed. Set the direction for design and implementation of software features/functionality, correction of defects and/or creation of new products. Interact with customer users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications. Product Module design and implementation (e.g., Describe and defend design decisions for components owned by the team; Optimize software design to leverage platform capabilities; Acts as the technical subject matter expert for a product domain; Quantify and communicate work estimates and risks to direct management; Handle multiple competing priorities with minimal help; Understand features as a whole and able to break down larger stories and features into tasks; and Familiar with most of the technologies we focus on and what markets they target). Takes ownership of customer issues and effectively communicate with Support/SEs to resolve field questions/issues. Consults with customers on larger concerns and problems they are trying to solve, over and above the immediate technical concerns. Effectively works within the team and across teams. Ensures all tasks are completed thoroughly and that any work done is tested, unit tested, documented, and ready for customers. Takes identified problems and concerns and creates a plan to fix the problem and prevent it from occurring again. Reliably delivers expected work products and outcomes. Help other members resolve complex problems, engaging in discussions about complex issues and providing my opinions Excellent listening skills.
