Job Title:
Software Engineer Job Description We are seeking a Software Engineer to modernize and transform a legacy system from VB.Net to C# code. This is a senior-level role designed for engineers who can deliver results with speed, precision, and autonomy. It requires a high degree of technical fluency, ownership, and the ability to execute effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments. Responsibilities Rapidly gain fluency in a 2M+ line VB.NET codebase to evolve it for today's needs. Build and enhance the C# middle layer using Entity Framework Core. Design and implement full-feature solutions in collaboration with the product owner. Triage and resolve critical, high-stakes bugs. Own integrations with third-party APIs such as UPS, Vertex, FedEx, and Twilio. Collaborate with other high-performing developers to elevate the platform. Essential Skills 6+ years of full stack development experience in VB.NET. Proficiency in both legacy systems and modern C#/EF Core patterns. Experience with legacy code migrations. Expertise in Entity Framework Core. Proficiency with SQL Server. Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Azure and Azure DevOps. Familiarity with GitHub. Ability to work with RESTful APIs. Experience in handling third-party API integrations. Work Environment The development team works 100% remotely, but candidates must live within a 4-hour drive of Nicholasville, KY, as occasional on-site collaboration is required. The team operates on Eastern Standard Time (EST), although Central Standard Time (CST) candidates are welcome if they can work EST hours. The team consists of four developers who do not follow any formal project management methodology. Collaboration with the IT manager and SW Architect is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nicholasville, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
