The Federal Civilian business unit supports many customers spanning the federal, commercial, and nonprofit space. Our customers include NASA, the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Library of Congress, Health & Human Services, and the FDIC. We partner with these agencies to build new capabilities, deliver products, establish data as a strategic asset for informed decision-making, modernize legacy systems, and build the digital service infrastructure necessary to scale their mission impact. Primary Responsibilities A Staff Software Engineer

• Full Stack serves as an emerging subject matter expert and senior individual contributor operating with a high degree of trust, autonomy, and accountability.

Working within a large-scale federal copyright modernization program, you will lead full stack development efforts across multiple workstreams with minimal oversight, driving technical direction while ensuring delivery against scope and schedule.

Primary expectations include:

Lead full stack development across front end and back end systems supporting federal copyright modernization workstreams Plan and execute technical roadmaps independently, without explicit direction from technical supervisors Serve as the primary technical lead for your workstream, proactively communicating progress, risks, and tradeoffs to stakeholders Elaborate on and evolve complex, ambiguous systems to surface constraints and uncover new opportunities Reduce technical ambiguity through documentation, refactoring, and automated testing practices Advocate for sound technical solutions in planning sessions, communicating tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Participate in technical depth interviews with prospective candidates Support bid writing, tech demos, and client-facing communications by articulating system history, design decisions, and past performance Periodically travel to collaborate with clients, partners, and stakeholders as needed Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent additional experience in lieu of a degree Expert-level proficiency in at least one major full stack technology stack with demonstrated ability to independently lead teams and ensure successful delivery Strong experience with back end development using Python and/or Java Proficiency with front end development using Angular or similar modern frameworks Experience working with relational databases, including PostgreSQL Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application architecture Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control using GitLab Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical topics to varied audiences Must meet federal suitability requirements and pass a background investigation as a condition of employment Preferred Qualifications Experience modernizing legacy systems within a federal agency environment Familiarity with SAFe or other scaled Agile frameworks Experience with AWS Lambda, Terraform, or containerized deployment patterns Prior work on programs involving federal records, licensing, or copyright systems To learn more about working at Ad Hoc, please visit:https://adhocteam.us/join
