We are seeking an experienced z/OS Administrator / Mainframe System Engineer to support enterprise mainframe environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in IBM z/OS systems, strong experience with system upgrades, performance tuning, and incident management, and a solid understanding of System z architecture.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $75,000 to $90,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
In this role, you will
+ Administer and maintain IBM z/OS environments (z/OS 3.1 and above) ensuring system stability and availability
+ Perform mainframe LPAR builds, configurations, and environment setup
+ Manage and execute z/OS upgrades, including version upgrades, patches, and system fixes
+ Install, configure, and maintain ISV (Independent Software Vendor) products
+ Maintain and manage system parameters including PARMLIB configurations
+ Monitor system performance using tools such as RMF and SMF, and generate performance reports
+ Configure and manage z/OSMF (z/OS Management Facility)
+ Provide support for Parallel Sysplex environments, ensuring high availability and system integrity
+ Handle incident management and troubleshooting for z/OS-related issues
+ Support workload management using WLM (Workload Manager) and optimize resource allocation
What you'll need to succeed (required skills)
+ 8+ years of experience in mainframe system administration or z/OS engineering
+ Demonstrated expertise in large-scale enterprise environments Strong expertise in IBM z/OS operating systems
+ Proven experience with Parallel Sysplex architecture
+ Hands-on experience with SMPE (System Modification Program Extended)
+ Proficiency in RMF (Resource Measurement Facility) and SMF (System Management Facility)
+ Knowledge of WLM (Workload Manager)
+ Solid understanding of IBM System z architecture
+ Experience with zOSMF configuration and administration
+ Hands-on experience in z/OS system upgrades and maintenance
+ Expertise in ISV product installation and support
