Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision and mentorship of members of the Engineering Staff, the Engineering Intern undertakes a variety of on-going activities and assigned projects at varying levels of professional complexity requiring knowledge within an area of specialty and/or engineering college major. The Software Engineering Intern works as a member of the Engineering team in support of contracted tasks including design, modeling, analysis, fabrication, and test activities. The Software Engineering Intern will interact directly with multidiscipline professionals in the planning and implementation of assigned projects. The Software Engineering Internship is a developmental position and is restricted to 3rd or 4th year college students whose major and personal interests are aligned with the role of the engineering organization and hiring department. It is a goal of the internship program to expose the student to the technical business environment to better prepare the student to make informed continued education and career decisions.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Participate in technical projects and programs designed to develop personal and professional skills and expertise appropriate to the needs of the Engineering Department. Perform various duties related to the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department based on area of specialty.
Examples of typical assignments include:
System and subsystem analysis and requirements specification. System and subsystem modeling and performance analysis. Component investigations with suppliers and subcontractors. Organization and correlation of test data in electronic format utilizing spreadsheets, word processing and database software. Creation of technical documentation. Software programming. Interact directly with colleagues and other internal or external resources in the planning of assignments and completion of projects. Conduct research and prepare reports based on findings, to include recommendations or alternative proposals for action. Along with other interns in the Company, participate in a presentation for the Executive Staff designed to summarize the internship experience and describe at least one completed project. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience with Microsoft SQL Experience with Linux development environment Familiarity with React in Javascript Familiarity with PhP and MySQL Experience with Python or other scripting language
Education, Experience, License, or Certification:
High School diploma and currently enrollment in an accredited technical Bachelor's degree program. Satisfactory completion of at least 2-3 years of college in an engineering major. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to understand and follow complex, detailed instructions, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Must be able to approach technical problems in a logical and scientific manner. Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities and be able to work for short to moderate periods of time without direct supervision. Computer skills, familiarity with basic shop tools and/or machine equipment, and an aptitude and understanding of basic electrical, mechanical, optical, or software engineering principles.
