Job Description

Junior Software Developer - Pay will depend on experience This is not a remote position. Please do not apply if you do not live in this area or plan to relocate here. Gregg Orr Auto Collection is hiring a Junior Software Engineer to work directly with our Director of IT on internal applications that support our dealerships, body shops, administrative offices, and marine & RV repair centers across four states. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who wants real-world experience shipping software that actual people depend on every day. You'll work alongside someone who handles all the architecture and product direction, so your job is to focus on writing good code, reviewing carefully, and learning the craft of professional software development. We don't expect you to know everything. We do expect you to be hungry, curious, and willing to put in the work to get better. What you'll do: Take assigned tasks, features, and bug fixes and complete them on a reasonable timeline Review code, both human-written and AI-generated, and learn to spot bugs, bad patterns, and things that just don't look right Practice clean version control: focused branches, meaningful commits, clear pull requests Work in shared repos without stepping on others' work; learn merging, rebasing, and resolving conflicts properly Keep project documentation up to date so nothing gets lost Test your work before it ships Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) as part of your daily workflow, and learn when to trust them and when not to Ask questions when something is unclear instead of guessing What we're looking for: Some real coding experience: bootcamp, CS degree, self-taught with a portfolio, internships, or personal projects you can show us Basic comfort with Git, the command line, and at least one modern language (TypeScript or Python preferred) Genuine curiosity about how things work and why Detail-oriented. If you say something is done, it's actually done Coachable; able to take feedback without taking it personally Clear written communication Reliable. Shows up, follows through, communicates when blocked
Bonus:
any experience with React/Next.js, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Linux, or AI coding assistants What you'll learn: How professional software gets built, shipped, and maintained in a real business Modern full-stack development across web and mobile How to work effectively with AI coding tools as a serious part of the workflow Self-hosted infrastructure, CI/CD, and deployment How software actually supports a multi-state operation
