Job Description

Overview American Systems is seeking senior software engineer to bring software expertise to the T&E community within the Department of War. This role will work as a key member of a small software team which supports OUSW Research and Engineering/Developmental Test, Evaluation, and Assessment (DTE&A) organization. DTE&A works within the acquisition community to improve acquisition outcomes and speed delivery of effective systems to the warfighter. Responsibilities As a Software Engineer with
AMERICAN
SYSTEMS, you will have the opportunity to do the following: Experience in supporting DoD Software Modernization and Coordination. Knowledge of development of comprehensive software strategies throughout DoD acquisition lifecycle. Experience in coordinating with OUSD(A&S), OSD CIO/CDO, the Services, and other agencies software staffs as required to ensure comprehensive and efficient overall software modernization strategies. Experience with recent and relevant software development (including Agile methodologies, and Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps). Experience in collaborating with other stakeholders, DoD contractors and independent consultants on technical assessments, provide customer with actionable recommendations to mitigate risks and issues in order to improve software related program execution. Familiar with DoD technical assessment guidance and methodology to perform software and DoD Data Modernization reviews and prepare the assessments As part of the Developmental Test, Evaluation, and Assessment (DTE&A) team within DoW Research and Enginering, you will: Lead DTE&A's efforts to analyze, characterize, and asses software development activities within acquisition programs in DoW. Be familiar with and utilize industry software analysis tools and methodology and apply that knowledge in support of DTE&A goals. Work within a team of driven, supportive, and highly skilled professionals focused on improving acquisition, test and evaluation, and software quaulity within DoW. Work to evaluate and secure cutting-edge technology and engineering capabilities to facilitate modernization efforts and support DoD joint warfighting efforts. Provide software engineering and systems engineering insight to DTE&A action officers engaged with evaluating and assisting Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAP) programs across DoW. Inform DTE&A Assessments of acquisition programs and prototypes with expert analysis of software systems, related processes, and any associated risks. Assist in reviews and assessments of Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMPs), developmental test plans, System Engineering Plans (SEPs), Software planning documents, Lifecycle Sustainment Plan (LCSPs), Acquisition Decision Memoranda (ADMs), Acquisition Baselines and Strategies, and other milestone decision documents. Evaluate test results, schedules, resources, and technological risks relarted to software systems and prcesses for program reviews. Contribute to working-level integrated product teams (WIPTs) Test and Evaluation and systems engineering support. Support Independent Technical Risk Assessments (ITRA). Develop papers, reports, and briefings targeted to senior OSD decision makers. Assess and provide recommendations on DoW policy for software, development, cyber resilience, AI/ML, and related areas. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and 11-12 years of related work experience in software engineering and/or development. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance Familiarity with with advanced or emerging technology areas, such as autonomy, artificial intelligence/machine learning, digital/model-based engineering, digital transformation or data-centric operations. Familiarity with current DevSecOps pipelines or supporting technologies, such as agile development processes and tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Gitlab, etc.) and containerization (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, etc.), CLOUD environments. is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $159,600.00/Yr. - USD $266,500.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
