Job Description

System One is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Software Developer for a 6-month W2 contract to help build and maintain a mission-critical engineering data management platform. This tool is a key part of our plan to improve the world's ability to deliver data-heavy nuclear power construction projects on time and on budget. It contains a nuclear-reactor project-specific data model linking plant safety functions, requirements, scientific analyses, documentation, tests, and more—serving as a "single source of truth" that supports traceable, high-quality execution across design and construction workflows. You'll join a small, senior-leaning team (~5 developers) and work closely with engineering leadership, QA, and internal users. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys owning work end-to-end, can translate real-world user needs into clear technical solutions, and is comfortable operating in environments where software quality, verification, and process discipline matter. What you'll do + Design, implement, document, and test features based on defined requirements and real user feedback. + Improve maintainability and velocity through thoughtful refactoring and pragmatic architecture decisions. + Proactively identify priorities and drive work forward without needing every task pre-scoped. + Partner with QA and stakeholders to support verification/validation expectations and quality standards. + Diagnose performance bottlenecks (application and data layer) and deliver measurable improvements. + Support CI/build/test tooling (e.g., Jenkins) and contribute to stable release practices. + Review code, provide actionable feedback, and help mentor other developers. + Provide occasional backend data operations/support for internal teams as needed. + Help train/support internal users so the platform is adopted successfully. Tech stack (must be hands-on) +
Backend:
Python, Django, Django REST Framework, Linux +
Frontend:
JavaScript, Vue 3, Quasar (SPA) What we're looking for + 5+ years building and supporting production web applications, with deep Django experience (not just exposure). + Strong JavaScript skills and real experience delivering SPAs in a modern framework (Vue strongly preferred). + Comfort working with tests, debuggers/profilers, git workflows, and code review as a daily habit. + Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and convert requests into implementable requirements. + A quality mindset: you care about correctness, traceability, and stable delivery—not just feature output. Nice to have + CI/CD ownership or significant contributions (Jenkins or similar). + Experience supporting Linux application/database servers. + Experience in regulated and/or audited environments (quality systems, formal V&V expectations).
