Job Description
About the RoleWe are looking for an Application Engineer who is eager to grow their expertise in switchgear systems while supporting the design and validation of customer-focused technical solutions. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineering, project management, sales, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and manufacturable designs.
This position is ideal for someone early in their application engineering career who is looking to learn from experienced engineers, build a strong technical foundation, and progress into more complex and customized project work over time.
What You Will DoProject Kickoff and Requirements ReviewParticipate in project kickoff and charter meetings to align on scope, requirements, and technical expectationsReview customer documentation such as one-line diagrams and customer-specific requirements to identify gaps, risks, or conflicts earlySupport the development of clarification documents to resolve discrepancies and secure customer approval before detailed design beginsDesign and Engineering SupportReview and approve key engineering deliverables including component lists, one-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and data platesEnsure all designs meet applicable industry standards (NEC, ANSI, IEEE, UL) as well as customer requirementsPartner with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to confirm feasibility and preserve design intent throughout the project lifecycleAssist with the selection of primary and secondary components in alignment with internal standards and customer needsTechnical Communication and CollaborationAct as a technical resource for design-related questions from internal teamsParticipate in technical discussions to drive alignment and resolve routine design challengesLearn and communicate internal design standards and processes, with increasing exposure to customer-facing technical conversations as experience growsMentorship and Knowledge SharingSupport and mentor engineers interested in developing application engineering skillsProvide constructive feedback to improve design quality, consistency, and efficiencyContinuous Improvement and DevelopmentStay current with evolving industry codes, standards, and internal best practicesDocument lessons learned and contribute to updates in standard operating procedures and work instructionsProactively seek mentorship and training from senior engineers and engineering leadership to prepare for more advanced and customized projectsPerform additional duties as assignedWhat You BringRequired QualificationsAbility to read and interpret schematic, one-line, and three-line diagramsFamiliarity with front elevation and mechanical drawingsWorking knowledge of primary and secondary control components from major OEMsStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesSolid analytical and problem-solving abilitiesPreferred QualificationsExposure to engineering drawing standards and industry codes (IEEE, UL 891, UL 1558, NEC), with a willingness to deepen expertise over timeClear and effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiencesCollaborative mindset and comfort working across cross-functional teamsCuriosity and initiative to stay current with innovations in switchgear and manufacturing technologies
