Wilmington, NC (Onsite - 5 days/week) A growing manufacturing organization on the North Carolina coast is seeking a hands?on Software Engineering Manager to lead a small embedded software team. This role is best suited for someone who still enjoys being deep in the code while also guiding and mentoring engineers. This is not a heavily administrative management role. Instead, it functions as a technical lead position with meaningful ownership of architecture, development, and problem?solving, paired with gradual people?leadership responsibilities. What You'll Do Act as the technical lead for a tight?knit embedded software team Spend the majority of your time writing, debugging, and reviewing code Provide technical guidance and support, especially around complex debugging challenges Collaborate closely with hardware and cross?functional teams Help coordinate work across a mix of full?time and contract engineers Participate in some client?facing technical discussions Contribute to designs that go from concept to real?world deployment Team & Role Structure Lead a team of ~5 embedded engineers Blend of onsite full?time engineers and contractors Strong collaboration with in?house hardware teams Opportunity to grow into broader people leadership over time (no need to be a seasoned manager on day one) Ideal Background Strong foundation in embedded software development Experience working in OS?based embedded environments Comfortable operating as a technical leader or senior lead engineer Background in manufacturing or contract manufacturing environments is a plus Roughly 10+ years of relevant experience preferred, but flexibility for the right profile Technical Stack (Not All Required) Embedded Linux and/or Windows Embedded C, C++, and/or Python System?level debugging and problem?solving experience Why This Role High impact, hands?on technical work Products and solutions are built and deployed, not theoretical Long?term growth opportunity within a stable manufacturing environment Onsite office close to downtown Wilmington, NC Compensation Competitive and flexible, based on experience Target range: $120,000-$140,000
