Job Description
Rocket Software, Inc. is looking to fill a Director, Software Engineering position reporting to Rogers, Arkansas (May telecommute part of time from home residence within Rogers, AR metropolitan area). Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent accepted) in computer science or a related field and 12 years' progressively responsible experience in an IT-related occupation. Experience must include the following specific experience and skills:
12 years' experience in software development, with a strong track record of delivering complex, high-impact applications.
10 years' leadership experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams, with demonstrated success in coordinating delivery across time zones, cultures, and organizational boundaries. This includes 3+ years of experience as a manager of managers, driving performance, scalability, and organizational growth.
10 years' hands-on experience with at least one of the following technologies: Java, JavaScript, C++, PL/I, or RPG.
5 years' solid product development experience on IBM platforms, including IBM i and IBM mainframe systems.
Proven leadership in designing and developing enterprise-grade DevSecOps products, encompassing source control and change management, cross-platform deployment pipelines (including IBM i), automated approval workflows, regulatory compliance enforcement, and integration of security throughout the CI/CD pipeline.
Skilled in leading the design of high-availability products with comprehensive backup and disaster recovery capabilities to support business continuity.
Currently leading product development teams from concept through delivery in a product-based organization, with deep technical involvement.
Ability to independently contribute to architecture design, development, and effort estimation when needed.
Demonstrated expertise in designing and delivering secure, scalable, highly available, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective solutions across on-premises, private, and public cloud environments.
Experience in budget management and ensuring adherence to organizational standards, policies, and best practices.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders in Sales, Product Design, Marketing, and Support to bring products successfully to the market.
Proficient in using project management tools such as Jira, and capable of driving initiatives through data-informed decision-making.
Proven track record of building high-performing teams, coaching team members, fostering leadership, and driving world-class product deliveries.
The Director, Software Engineering directs the software systems development function, including the design, development, troubleshooting, and debugging of software programs for software enhancements and new products. Oversees the development of multiple products. Coordinates and provides direction to multiple product teams to meet delivery dates on time and with high quality. Communicates with customers and business partners as well as other lines of business to align schedules and resources. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the business and work to grow and retain talent.
Collaborate with senior leadership to define and implement organization's Directs the activities of multiple software development teams to deliver enhancements, services, and new products on time and with the highest quality. Works across multiple teams and disciplines, sometimes with other lines of business, to align schedules, resources, and priorities and help ensure delivery commitments are met. Helps team members prioritize work and load balance, sometimes across multiple teams to ensure everyone is working towards the same priorities and OKRs. Guides teams in best practices including code quality, automation, secure coding, SLA adherence, and Agile methodologies. Analyzes engineering tasks and reviews design specifications, analysis, and recommendations. Includes SMEs from across the organization as needed to reach the best possible solutions. Interacts with product managers, sales, and support to ensure teams have the proper priorities and customer commitments are being met in all aspects of the development work. Interfaces with clients/partners to manage the business partner relationship, provide updates as needed, and address any critical customer situation including status and being a single point of contact until full resolution is met. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel as needed to ensure qualifications and is also instrumental in attracting, growing, and retaining top talent across the organization. Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers or management or attempting to influence senior-level leader regarding matters of significance to the organization.
