Role Summary The Director, Software Engineering role is a senior member of MTW's Leadership team, reporting directly to the company's General Manager/President. The Director, Software Engineering, will provide: Strategic Leadership Set technical direction and drive digital innovation for software products, from strategy through delivery Define and evolve technology roadmap aligned with business objectives Partner with executive leadership on technology investment decisions Stay current with technological advancements (AI, cloud platforms, etc.) and provide strategic insights and recommendations to maintain our technical edge Support business development through technical content for RFPs and security assessments Software Engineering Management Drive profitable engineering and product management practices that positively impact business financial performance that improves EBITDA and revenue streams Define Manage DevOps and Product Development teams and ensure disciplined, predictable, on-budget project delivery that meets client deadlines o Foster a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence o Streamline operations and capacity planning as well as drive automation o Implement AI tools and processes to improve workflow, and outcomes for both internal development team and customers Infrastructure and Network Operations Partner with Exa Enterprise Support Group (EESG) IT Infrastructure on hardware, network, and systems operations. Own engineering requirements and SLAs Security, Compliance, and Risk Management Manage, review the Access Control process to maintain least needed privileges per the Information Security Policies and Procedures document. Identify and mitigate technology-related risks, ensuring data privacy and regulatory compliance Achieve and maintain SOC 2 Type 2 certification for GMS, Harvest™, and COMPAS product lines Ensure security and strong internal controls, process documentation, and regulatory compliance across operational functions Partner with Compliance, Internal Audit, and Risk Management to address findings and manage risk exposure Manage periodic review and testing of the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans Policies and Procedures and other policies and procedures to maintain business continuity and reduce risk. Customer Implementation Support Oversee technical aspects of customer implementations and integrations Drive discipline and best practices for successful and on time deployments Provide engineering support to the implementation team on technical escalations and integrations. Resource Management Create and manage the approved technology budget, optimizing resource capacity and cost-effectiveness Participate in annual business budget planning for hardware, infrastructure, and staffing needs Identify skills gaps and partner with General Manager/President to build business cases for additional technical or client-facing staff to ensure company's ability to deliver products and services and reach or exceed established goals. Manage vendor relationships, evaluating and selecting solutions and services that best improve our products Talent Development Build a strong engineering team - hire, develop, and retain engineering leaders capable of running their domains independently. Team building is the primary outcome of this role. Build, lead, and develop virtual U.S. and offshore teams Support workforce planning, succession planning, and leadership development Ramp up team members quickly and review their outputs Required Qualifications 10-15 years experience with a bachelor or master degree in computer science, information technology, or related field. 6+ years of leading engineering teams, including direct experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering leaders. Demonstrated success managing, budgets, software development, client facing implementations, capacity planning, project planning, and systems architecture Strong working knowledge of C#/.NET ecosystem (desktop and enterprise applications), sufficient to credibly lead architecture decisions and review team's output; prior hands-on coding experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience embedding AI across the software development lifecycle - coding assistants (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code), AI augmented code review and testing, automated documentation, and AI assisted internal tooling. Has measurably increased engineering throughput through AI adoption, not just experimented with it. Strong working knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS), cybersecurity frameworks, and network architecture Extensive understanding of software development methodologies, infrastructure management, and cybersecurity best practices and SOC 2, Type 2 certification processes Strategic thinker with ability to translate business objectives into technology strategies An effective communicator and confident leader equipped with strong people management skills and a genuine passion for delivery Experience in leading remote onshore and offshore teams of various skill levels, helping them ramp up quickly and able to review their outputs What You'll Learn and Gain Deep exposure to the full software development lifecycle from origination to execution within a small business context Experience in government software business as well as prospecting new markets Direct exposure to a portfolio wide AI implementation playbook across multiple software companies. Insight into capital investment strategy and portfolio stewardship Ability to influence investment decisions
