Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead and manage one or more software engineering teams responsible for the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of enterprise scale applications and platforms Provide technical and people leadership across the full software delivery lifecycle, including planning, execution, operational support, and continuous improvement Partner closely with Product, Architecture, Operations, and Business stakeholders to translate business objectives into clear technical strategies and executable delivery plans Drive engineering excellence, including adherence to secure coding standards, architectural best practices, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and operational resilience Own delivery commitments, ensuring teams meet quality, performance, security, and availability expectations while aligning to agreed upon timelines and priorities Establish and evolve engineering processes and standards that improve velocity, reliability, and developer experience across teams Mentor and develop engineering leaders and senior engineers, providing coaching on technical decision making, leadership skills, and career growth Participate in architecture and design reviews, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise technology standards Collaborate with peer leaders to support cross team initiatives, platform reuse, and reduction of technical debt Manage team capacity, hiring, onboarding, and performance management in alignment with workforce plans and organizational goals Ensure compliance with enterprise security, privacy, regulatory, and risk management requirements, including documentation and audit readiness Promote a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning, reinforcing Optum's engineering and leadership values Perform other duties as assigned based on leadership direction and business needs You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 3+ years in an engineering management or senior technical leadership role leading teams delivering production systems Demonstrated experience leading teams that build and operate API based, distributed, or platform oriented systems in a cloud environment Experience partnering with Product Management, Architecture, Operations, and Security to deliver customer facing solutions aligned to business outcomes Experience driving engineering standards, code quality, CI/CD practices, and operational excellence in a production environment Experience working in regulated or compliance driven environments, with an understanding of security, audit, and risk considerations Solid understanding of software architecture, system design, and engineering best practices, including scalability, resiliency, security, and maintainability Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams, delivery commitments, and technical dependencies across cross functional teams Proven solid leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to represent engineering perspectives to senior leadershipPreferred Qualifications:
Experience building or supporting healthcare technology platforms, including exposure to claims, eligibility, payments, or payer/provider integrations Experience integrating with clearinghouse or third party transaction processing platforms and managing external system dependencies Experience mentoring engineering managers or senior engineers and building sustainable leadership pipelines Experience leading teams through platform modernization or legacy system integration initiatives Working knowledge of cloud native architectures (for example, containerized services, event driven patterns, and observability tooling) Familiarity with API marketplaces, developer portals, or client onboarding flows for external consumers Proven exposure to multi payer or multi tenant platform models and enterprise scale identity, access, and onboarding workflows •All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
