Job Description
Rocket Software, Inc. is looking to fill a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering position reporting to Rogers, Arkansas (May telecommute part of time from home residence within Rogers, AR metropolitan area). Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent accepted) in Computer Science, Systems / Control Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and 15 years' progressively responsible experience in an IT-related occupation. Experience must include the following specific experience and skills:
15 years' progressive experience in software engineering, including leadership, architecture, development, quality assurance, and system integration across large-scale enterprise environments
10 years' experience in software engineering management, including leading cross-functional teams, driving product strategy, and overseeing end-to-end software delivery
5 years' hands-on experience in IBM i system development, including expertise in RPG, CL, system APIs, and IBM i operational tools
5 years' experience with journal-based replication for high availability (HA) / disaster recovery (DR) solutions on the IBM i platform, including configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting, using solutions such as iCluster, MIMIX, or IBM PowerHA
5 years' experience in project and program management, preferably with a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent
5 years' experience with Agile development methodologies, certified Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Practice Consultant is a plus
Demonstrated success in leading software innovation, complex problem-solving, and delivering scalable solutions aligned with business and technical goals
Experience in quality management and software testing practices; International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) certification is considered advantageous
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across global, cross-functional teams
As the Sr. Manager of Software Engineering, the incumbent will be responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions on the IBM i platform. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to define and execute strategic product objectives. The role includes managing a geographically distributed software engineering team, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of enterprise software. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software development leadership and a deep understanding of the IBM i platform and HA/DR architectures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the product roadmap and align with strategic product development and quality objectives. Lead and oversee the design, implementation, testing, defect resolution, and enhancement of product features. Interface with customers and technical support teams to identify, diagnose, and resolve product issues, with a focus on data security and customer satisfaction. Coordinate with internal teams to improve development processes, enforce quality standards, and ensure enterprise compliance. Drive the adoption of engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes. Evaluate and implement development methodologies and tools to optimize workflows and increase team productivity. Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for product and business improvement. Lead initiatives to explore and integrate innovative technologies to enhance product functionality and competitiveness. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team. Coach, mentor, and support professional development of team members across all experience levels. Assist in work prioritization and resource balancing to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and key results (OKRs).
