Job Description

Description LC-MS High Complexity Lab Technical Supervisor The LC-MS Technical Supervisor position is responsible for the coordination of all technical, logistical, and administrative functions to ensure prompt and accurate testing and reporting of clinical laboratory samples within the established timeframes. The technical supervisor is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory. The technical supervisor is not required to be on site at all times testing is performed; however, he or she must be available to the laboratory on an as needed basis to provide supervision as specified in (a) of this section.
Essential Job Functions:
The technical supervisor must be accessible to the laboratory to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation; and The technical supervisor is responsible for: Selection of the test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results; Verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system; Enrollment and participation in an HHS approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered; Establishing a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establishing the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from the initial receipt of the specimen, through sample analysis and reporting of test results; Resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications; Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly; Identifying training needs and assuring that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed; Evaluating the competency of all testing personnel and assuring that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently. The procedures for evaluation of the competency of the staff must include, but are not limited to— Direct observations of routine patient test performance, including patient preparation, if applicable, specimen handling, processing and testing; Monitoring the recording and reporting of test results; Review of intermediate test results or worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing results, and preventive maintenance records; Direct observation of performance of instrument maintenance and function checks; Assessment of test performance through testing previously analyzed specimens, internal blind testing samples or external proficiency testing samples; and Assessment of problem-solving skills; and Evaluating and documenting the performance of individuals responsible for high complexity testing at least semiannually during the first year the individual tests patient specimens. Thereafter, evaluations must be performed at least annually unless test methodology or instrumentation changes, in which case, prior to reporting patient test results, the individual's performance must be reevaluated to include the use of the new test methodology or instrumentation. Interface with clinical and laboratory staff including management, medical directors, internal nursing/physicians, and technical staff Establishes a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed, establishes the acceptable levels of analytic performance, and ensures these levels are maintained throughout the testing process Monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance is maintained to include review of quality control, instrument and equipment maintenance, and other quality assurance activities Identify areas where testing can be optimized to enhance test performance, throughput, or clinical accuracy. Searches and studies the literature to introduce new areas of testing and provide experimental. design for new assay development. Project manage development and validation procedures to ensure they meet

requirements Review and sign off on validation summaries to ensure they contain data to support clinical. decision making Participate in routine CAP of CLIA audits as needed. Evaluates and documents Testing Personnel's performance/competency at six months and twelve months during the first year of employment and yearly thereafter. Training and proficiency in the laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for clinical testing and knowledge in their quality control parameters. Remote access to onsite equipment and machinery to review samples and run tests. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Licensed MD/DO.DPM or Ph.D. AND certified in clinical pathology OR 1 year lab training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed. Master's degree in lab science AND 2 years lab training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed. Bachelor's degree in lab science AND 4 years lab training or experience in the high complexity testing specialties performed.
