As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you will drive day-to-day quality strategy and automation execution for Frontier's clinical and operational platform and own the quality assurance interface between engineering and stakeholders - designing comprehensive test plans, building scalable automation frameworks, and ensuring software quality throughout the SDLC. This is a key quality advocate role within an engineering organization operating in a regulated healthcare environment where HIPAA compliance and SOC 2 control requirements are first-class concerns, not afterthoughts.
What You'll Own Test Planning:
Author detailed test plans and test cases for new features, integrations, and regression cycles - covering functional, edge-case, and security-sensitive scenarios including PHI access controls and audit logging requirements
Automation Development:
Build and maintain automation frameworks for API and end-to-end testing; integrate suites into CI/CD pipelines for continuous quality feedback
Compliance-Aware Testing:
Design test scenarios that account for PHI handling, access controls, and audit logging requirements aligned with HIPAA and SOC 2 Type II controls; support audit evidence collection as needed
Defect Management:
Identify, document, and track defects through resolution; partner with developers to reproduce issues and validate fixes
Quality Advocacy:
Participate in sprint ceremonies, contribute to story refinement with a quality lens, and champion shift-left testing practices across the team
Tooling and Process:
Evaluate and introduce testing tools that improve coverage, speed, and reliability; maintain clear documentation of test strategies and results Requirements Minimum of 3 years of experience in a QA automation or in an SDET role Proficiency in Python or a comparable scripting language for test development Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated test suites for REST APIs CI/CD integration experience (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar) Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements as they relate to software testing - PHI data handling, access controls, and audit trails Ability to read application code to inform testing approach and identify risk areas Experience working in a fast paced, start up environment Preferred Qualifications Experience testing healthcare data integrations (HL7, FHIR, EDI 837/835) Familiarity with SOC 2 Type II control frameworks and evidence collection for audits Experience with contract testing tools (e.g., Pact) GCP or cloud platform exposure Familiarity with AI assisted testing suites Security testing fundamentals (OWASP, penetration test support, vulnerability validation) Benefits Frontier Membership for you and your immediate family Medical, dental, and vision insurance Voluntary insurance: short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and other supplemental insurances. 401(k) plan: Free access to financial wellness platforms that provide financial advisors + personal finance tools Time Off Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) policy, which includes up to 5 unplanned days off per year 9 additional company holidays Parental Leave policy At Frontier Direct Care, we value diversity.
