Campus, ILLINOIS Summary The Actuarial Science Student Ambassador supports a high school outreach initiative designed to inform students about educational and career opportunities in actuarial science. The student ambassador will represent BGSU by delivering presentations to local high schools and/or their alma maters, helping make the profession more visible, relatable, and attainable to prospective students. Career Readiness Competencies Take initiative to learn new tools, systems, or procedures on the job. Adjust tone and approach based on audience (e.g., peers vs. supervisors). Show respect for coworkers, supervisors, and students with different backgrounds. Serve as a point of contact or liaison between student groups or departments. Follow instructions, meet deadlines, and deliver quality work. Use technology to organize, track, or present information clearly. Essential Functions Attend an informational session and required training session(s) related to the outreach program. Deliver 10- to 15-minute presentations to high school students about actuarial science, including educational pathways and career opportunities. Coordinate with high schools to schedule presentation dates and times, subject to prior approval. Conduct multiple presentations during a single visit when possible, such as presenting to multiple class periods or student groups. Communicate professionally with high school representatives, BGSU faculty, and program staff. Provide feedback after visits to help improve the outreach program. Follow all program guidelines and represent BGSU in a professional manner. Minimum Qualifications Must be a current BGSU student. Must have strong communication and presentation skills. Must be comfortable speaking with high school students and representing BGSU in a professional setting. Must be willing to complete training before participating in high school visits. Must be able to coordinate scheduling and logistics for approved visits. Must be dependable, organized, and responsive in communication. Additional Information This position is part of a high school outreach initiative intended to increase awareness of actuarial science and encourage future enrollment at BGSU. Student ambassadors may visit local high schools and/or their alma maters. High school visits require prior approval and will be considered based on program budget, targeted schools, and the number of presentations planned. The program is overseen by Professor Douglas Bujakowski, who will lead training, approve visits, and help facilitate communication as needed. Pending budgetary approval, the program is intended to continue annually and may be modified based on feedback from participants and partner schools. To compensate BGSU students for their time and effort, each student will receive a $100 stipend for completing the training and conducting an initial high school visit. Students who make additional visits will receive an additional $100 stipend per visit. Bowling Green State University is an equal opportunity employer.
