ABOUT THE ROLE
This is not a traditional IT management role focused primarily on oversight or vendor coordination. This role carries full ownership of our client's informatics environment and requires a leader who is equally comfortable defining systems architecture and personally implementing critical components. As the senior-most informatics leader, you will operate with end-to-end responsibility for the laboratory's digital backbone. This includes hands-on configuration, integration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of the systems that support laboratory operations. Over time, you will help scale the function appropriately, but success in this role begins with direct ownership and execution. You will work closely with scientific leadership, operations, and executive leadership to ensure our client's informatics infrastructure is robust, scalable, and aligned with the company's long-term growth. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in building systems properly, enjoys working close to the technical foundation, and wants to directly shape the informatics architecture of a growing laboratory platform.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) Architecture & Ownership- Serve as the primary owner and technical authority for our client's LIMS platform, ensuring it functions as the central operating system of the laboratory.
- Design, configure, and continuously optimize workflows including sample accessioning, chain of custody, testing workflows, results review, and Certificate of Analysis (COA) generation.
- Ensure seamless interoperability between LIMS, client portal, billing systems, and internal operational tools.
- Maintain validated system configurations consistent with ISO/IEC 17025 and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Establish scalable architecture capable of supporting significant growth in testing volume, complexity, and client base. Instrument Integration & Scientific Data Infrastructure
- Architect, implement, and maintain direct integration between analytical instruments and laboratory information systems, including LC-MS/MS, HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, FTIR, and microbiological platforms.
- Ensure reliable, automated, and auditable transfer of analytical data from instrument output through final reporting.
- Configure and maintain chromatography data systems and middleware platforms such as MassHunter, Empower, ChemStation, OpenLab, and related systems.
- Troubleshoot integration, connectivity, and data workflow issues to ensure operational continuity.
- Maintain rigorous adherence to ALCOA+ data integrity principles throughout the testing lifecycle. Reporting Infrastructure, Automation & Data Visibility
- Design and implement scalable reporting infrastructure, including client-specific reports and Certificates of Analysis.
- Develop automated reporting workflows and internal dashboards that provide clear visibility into laboratory performance and operational metrics.
- Build and maintain reporting tools using SQL and other appropriate technologies to ensure flexible, accurate, and efficient reporting.
- Support development and integration of client-facing reporting systems and informatics infrastructure. IT Infrastructure, Security & Compliance
- Own and maintain the laboratory's core IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, workstations, storage, and system reliability.
- Ensure appropriate system security, access controls, audit trails, and disaster recovery protocols.
- Maintain compliance with electronic records, data integrity, and regulatory requirements, including ISO/IEC 17025 and 21 CFR Part 11 where applicable.
- Establish and maintain cybersecurity practices appropriate for protecting proprietary client data and laboratory intellectual property. Systems Ownership, Hands-On Execution & Continuous Improvement
- Personally configure, implement, and refine laboratory informatics systems, integrations, and reporting infrastructure.
- Diagnose and resolve system, instrument, and data integration issues directly when they arise.
- Establish system documentation, standards, and architecture that support operational reliability and future scalability.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve system performance, automation, and operational efficiency. Strategic Informatics Leadership & Scalability
- Develop and execute the long-term informatics strategy aligned with Beaconpoint's growth and operational objectives.
- Ensure systems infrastructure supports increasing testing volume, expanding service offerings, and evolving client needs.
- Evaluate emerging laboratory informatics technologies and implement solutions that strengthen operational capability.
- Partner closely with scientific leadership and executive leadership to ensure informatics systems support both scientific rigor and business performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
