Core Finance Functional with Strong Asset accounting-
Location:
Houston, TX Job Description Core Responsibilities Serve as the senior client-side advocate for SAP Core Finance design across record-to-report, controllership, and core accounting process areas. Review and challenge program deliverables including but not limited to design documents, functional specifications, configuration choices, process flows, and cross-functional integration decisions proposed by the SI and other delivery partners. Guide decision-making for general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset accounting, controlling, intercompany, allocations, close/reporting, and other core finance capabilities in S/4HANA. Validate fit-to-standard recommendations and identify where utility-specific requirements, regulatory needs, or internal control obligations justify additional design consideration. Ensure strong traceability from business requirements through design decisions, configuration outcomes, testing impacts, and reporting consequences. Participate in Design Authority, governance forums, and key deliverable review cycles on behalf of the client team. Help identify and resolve cross-functional issues spanning supply chain, finance, EAM, and field operations. Guide the client team on where fit-to-standard is appropriate and where operational realities require deeper evaluation or design clarification. Translate complex finance design trade-offs into clear business decision points for client sponsors, process owners, and governance stakeholders. Help build client capability by coaching finance leads and reinforcing durable quality disciplines across planning, design, and validation activities. Required Experience and Qualifications 12-15+ years of SAP Finance experience with deep command of SAP ECC and
SAP S/4HANA
implementations across large, complex transformation programs. Demonstrated expertise in core finance capabilities including GL, AP, AR, Asset Accounting, Cost Center Accounting, Internal Orders, Profitability/Controlling, and financial close/reporting processes. Strong understanding of S/4HANA finance concepts, including Universal Journal and key finance integration points with supply chain, projects, and EAM. Hands-on experience interpreting and validating design documentation, functional specifications, process architecture, and integration designs. Strong working knowledge of SAP Activate, Fit-to-Standard, and end-to-end process design methods. Experience implementing large, complex, multi-jurisdiction SAP Transformations is required. Experience across both SAP ECC and
SAP S/4HANA
environments is required. Additional Preferred Experience Experience implementing SAP in Electric and/or Gas IOU s is strongly preferred. Southwest region based preferred but not required. Ability and willingness to co-locate with the client team during critical planning, design, and governance periods. (at least 50% of the time) 4 full-lifecycle SAP Transformations, at least 3 preferred Experience with PowerPlan /Fixed Asset Accounting is preferred. Experience with FERC reporting, regulatory accounting/reporting needs, or other utility reporting obligations. Experience operating in complex multi-partner programs where the practitioner must independently assess and challenge SI recommendations. Experience with capital vs. O&M treatment, regulatory recovery considerations, fixed asset capitalization, work order settlement, and utility accounting structures. Experience advising utility clients on finance implications of major EAM, supply chain, and field execution design decisions.
