Job Description
The Information Technology Intern provides entry-level support for business applications, basic troubleshooting, documentation updates, and simple GIS/Cityworks data review tasks. The intern assists users with software questions, completes small, assigned tasks, and supports the IT team in daily operations. This internship is designed as a learning opportunity and does not involve advanced system administration or hardware deployment responsibilities. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Perform basic IT support tasks such as password resets, software usage questions, and ticket documentation. Assist with troubleshooting user software issues and escalating when needed. Assist with basic Cityworks user support, such as reviewing service requests or verifying data. Support GIS tasks including simple map viewing, data review, and basic edits under supervision. Help update documentation, job aids, and workflow instructions. Run simple data queries or exports as trained. Support department staff on small projects and administrative tasks. May be deemed essential at any time. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Essential Competencies:
Basic understanding of computers, software, and common IT concepts; ability to learn Cityworks, GIS, and IT support processes; strong communication skills; ability to follow instructions; excellent customer service; strong organizational skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Ability to operate a variety of computer hardware and software including, but not limited to, desktops, laptops, Mobile Data Computers (MDCs), printers, print servers, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite; install computer hardware and software; diagnose technical problems and determine appropriate action; prioritize and organize work and provide excellent customer service; effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; excel both independently and as a team member in a lively, collaborative environment. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; communicate with clients in non-technical terms; follow oral and written instructions.Minimum Education and Work Experience:
Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science or related field. If enrolled in an undergraduate program, must be a sophomore, junior or senior upon employment. Required Licenses/Certifications and otherSpecial Requirements:
Students must have and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.Minimum Lead/Supervisory or Management Experience:
