Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) Lead / Subject Matter Expert to oversee and mature the enterprise-wide software asset lifecycle program. This senior individual contributor and team lead role is responsible for ensuring strong governance, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and cost optimization across all software assets. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in SAM methodologies, ServiceNow SAM Pro, and cross-functional stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities Manage the full end-to-end Software Asset Management (SAM) lifecycle, covering procurement, deployment, maintenance, utilization tracking, and retirement of enterprise software assets. Lead and provide guidance to a team of technical SAM professionals, ensuring high-quality deliverables and continuous process improvement. Maintain accurate inventory reporting, reconciliation, and documentation to support regulatory, financial, and audit requirements. Perform in-depth data analysis within ServiceNow SAM Pro to deliver visibility into software usage, licensing compliance, and entitlement status. Track software entitlements, monitor license consumption, and conduct internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance and cost efficiency. Respond to internal and external audit requests; investigate licensing discrepancies and drive resolution of compliance issues. Lead cross-functional initiatives with Infrastructure, Security, Procurement, Finance, and Risk Management to improve SAM process maturity. Support onboarding of new enterprise software titles into ServiceNow SAM Pro, including requirements gathering, stakeholder interviews, and business/technical documentation. Compile and analyze financial, contractual, and inventory data to support enterprise IT asset lifecycle management decisions. Develop, recommend, and enforce SAM policies and standard operating procedures to ensure software compliance and mitigate audit risk. Identify and recommend automation and tooling enhancements to improve governance, reporting maturity, and operational efficiency. Assist in developing strategies for software consolidation, licensing compliance optimization, and cost reduction initiatives. Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and standard operating controls to mitigate cybersecurity, endpoint, and physical asset risk. Collect, analyze, and maintain data on software usage, versioning, contract end dates, and license information. Analyze business processes, data flows, and operational reporting to support continuous SAM program improvement. Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience with enterprise-wide Software Asset Management. 5+ years of hands-on experience with ServiceNow SAM Pro and Hardware Asset Management (HAM Pro) implementations. Solid knowledge of enterprise software licensing models, contract management, and asset lifecycle processes. Familiarity with asset data normalization, catalog management, workspaces, and compliance dashboards. Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail in data management and reporting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and enterprise reporting tools. Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Willingness to work on-site in Woodlawn, MD five days per week. Education Requirements Master s degree + 5 years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor s degree + 7 years of relevant experience, OR 13 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Preferred / Desired
Qualifications Demonstrated experience building and maturing enterprise IT Asset governance programs. ITIL Foundation or higher certification. Governance, audit, or risk management certifications (e.g., CGEIT, CRISC, ISO 19770). Experience developing SAM automation workflows and tooling integrations.
