BILLINGS, MT The Montana Department of Corrections (DOC) is creating a safer Montana through Accountability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment. The IT Systems Analyst works within the Information Technology Bureau in the Montana Department of Corrections' Director's Office. This office provides critical support to the department's executive team through communications, financial services, legal services, and human resources. The landscape of corrections is constantly evolving, and this team is at the forefront of managing this change on behalf of Montana citizens. Join us today! The IT Systems Analyst is a strategic leader responsible for aligning IT systems with organizational objectives. This role involves collaborating with managers to analyze, design, and implement system enhancements while ensuring data integrity. Key responsibilities include consulting with managers to understand system needs, gathering and analyzing user requirements, and working with business owners to expand or modify systems. The analyst researches new functionalities, conducts in-depth system testing, develops reports and data visualizations, and designs user acceptance test plans to validate that systems meet business requirements. The role may also include training users, creating documentation, developing scripts for process automation, and preparing cost-benefit analyses to support decision-making for upgrades or new systems. In addition, the IT Systems Analyst oversees installation, configuration, customization, and testing for new, existing, or updated systems while maintaining close collaboration with vendors and supporting budget planning for technology initiatives. The analyst evaluates and implements technical tools to troubleshoot or enhance systems, stays current on emerging technologies to recommend improvements, and may lead or manage systems analyst projects in the absence of a designated project manager. Through proactive research, effective communication, and strong analytical skills, this position ensures technology solutions are optimized, efficient, and aligned with the organization's long-term goals. The hourly rate of this position will increase by $1.00 per hour or 2.5%, whichever is greater, effective July 1, 2026, in accordance with HB13.
QUALIFICATIONS
The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field Three years of relevant experience A total of five years of relevant experience may be substituted to meet these qualifications Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
