Job Description

Job Summary:
CIT invites applications for the position of Workday Technical Specialist, a key role in Oberlin's ERP Optimization Initiative. This role is joining Oberlin at a pivotal moment, serving as the primary technical expert responsible for configuring and building the Workday platform as the College transitions from a 30-year-old Banner legacy system to a modern, cloud-based ERP that will support the institution for decades to come. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications, the Workday Technical Specialist is responsible for the configuration, design, and technical build of Workday across Human Resources and Finance. This role translates business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable Workday configurations, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and Workday best practices. The Workday Technical Specialist works closely with functional leads, business analysts, and integration specialists, and is expected to own the configuration integrity of the system, including business processes, security, and core platform setup. This role operates at the intersection of configuration, architecture, and integration, ensuring that Workday is built correctly from the start, with a strong technical foundation for long-term success.
Responsibilities:
Workday Configuration & Build Ownership Design, configure, and implement Workday business processes, security models, and core system functionality. Serve as the primary owner of system configuration, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with Workday best practices. Establish configuration standards that support scalability, maintainability, and future enhancements. Technical Solution Design Translate functional requirements into efficient, scalable, and sustainable Workday configurations. Provide technical direction to ensure solutions are designed correctly from the outset, minimizing rework. Partner closely with Business Analysts and functional teams to ensure alignment between business needs and system capabilities. Security & Data Configuration Design and configure Workday security roles, domains, and access models. Ensure configurations align with institutional policies and data governance standards. Maintain proper structuring of sensitive HR and financial data within the system. Integration Alignment Work closely with Integration Specialists to ensure Workday configurations align with integration requirements across systems such as Banner, OnBase, CRM, and other enterprise platforms. Provide technical input into integration design to ensure compatibility with system configuration. Ensure data structures and configurations support accurate and reliable data exchange. Testing & System Validation Lead the configuration aspects of testing cycles, including unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing. Ensure configurations are validated, consistent, and ready for deployment. Partner with the project team to resolve defects and ensure system quality. Configuration Quality & Continuous Improvement Continuously refine configurations to improve system performance, usability, and maintainability. Identify and correct configuration issues early to reduce downstream impact. Apply Workday best practices to ensure a clean, sustainable system design. Success Measures Success in this role will be demonstrated through: High-quality, scalable Workday configurations aligned with best practices Minimal rework due to strong upfront design and configuration discipline Well-structured security and data models supporting institutional needs Configurations that enable reliable integrations and reporting Strong contribution to testing and go-live readiness A clean, maintainable system foundation that supports long-term success Required qualifications: Three (3) years of hands-on experience configuring Workday (HCM & Finance) in higher education. Strong expertise in Workday business process framework and security configuration. Proven ability to translate functional requirements into technical configurations. Strong attention to detail and commitment to configuration quality. Bachelor's degree in information technology, Business, or related field.
Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
