We are looking for a trusted technical advisor who can help us evaluate current projects, guide development efforts, mentor team members, and help establish a practical roadmap for future technology initiatives. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and will enjoy helping a growing organization implement technology in practical and measurable ways. This position is primarily remote. Candidates should be willing to visit our Othello, Washington operation periodically for planning meetings, project reviews, and collaboration with the team. We welcome candidates located throughout Washington State and will reimburse reasonable travel and lodging expenses when on-site visits are required. Expected engagement is approximately 5-15 hours per week initially, with flexibility based on project needs and mutual interest Why This Opportunity? About Bluewater Farms Bluewater Farms is an agricultural operation focused on irrigation management and farm operations. As our business continues to grow, we are investing in software, automation, data collection, and operational intelligence to improve efficiency and support future innovation initiatives. We are seeking an experienced technical professional to help guide our technology efforts, provide technical leadership, and assist in developing a long-term roadmap for software, automation, analytics, and AI-assisted decision support systems. This role is ideal for an experienced software engineer, software architect, technical consultant, engineering manager, or fractional CTO who enjoys working closely with business stakeholders and helping organizations successfully adopt technology. Current Environment & Technology Initiatives Bluewater Farms is actively building the digital infrastructure needed to support data-driven operations, automation, and future AI initiatives. Our first major project is a custom web application currently in the final stages of development. The application compares daily irrigation schedules against real-time pivot telemetry and highlights discrepancies between planned and actual operations. As part of this workflow, users record resolution actions and reason codes when issues are corrected. These records are retained alongside operational data to support future analysis and continuous process improvement. Beyond the web application, Bluewater has access to several years of historical operational and agronomic data, including: Pivot telemetry and operational history Irrigation schedules and water usage records GPS and field-level data Soil sample results and agronomic recommendations Crop and production information Sensor and monitoring data Operational reports and historical records Responsibilities Review and provide feedback on existing software projects and technical initiatives Evaluate architecture, design decisions, and code quality Help oversee and coordinate work performed by external development teams Participate in regular planning and strategy meetings with company leadership Assist in defining technical requirements for future projects Recommend technologies, tools, and architectural approaches Identify opportunities for automation, analytics, and operational improvements Help establish data collection and management best practices Mentor less experienced technical team members Assist with implementation and development efforts when appropriate Help create a long-term technology roadmap aligned with business goals Desired Qualifications Professional software development experience Experience leading or reviewing software projects Strong understanding of software architecture and engineering best practices Experience working with databases, APIs, cloud platforms, and web applications Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Experience working with operational, industrial, agricultural, manufacturing, or logistics systems is a plus Experience with AI, machine learning, data analytics, or automation projects is desirable Consulting, technical leadership, or management experience is a plus
Compensation:
Competitive contract compensation, negotiable based on experience and engagement structure. Open to hourly, retainer, or project-based arrangements.
