Criminal Justice Department is searching for a Part-Time Temporary Web Designer!Hourly Rate:
$35.00 This is a grant-funded position ending August 31, 2026. Position Summary The Department of Criminal Justice at Temple University is seeking to hire a part-time, temporary web designer with WordPress skills. This part-time, temporary position is ideal for someone early in their career who wants meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to build on existing design and front-end web skills, but also engage in additional tasks to develop web-based resources for community and government agencies working to reduce community violence. The role will focus on front-end design, layout, and content implementation, including refining page structure, formatting and uploading content, improving visual consistency, and helping ensure the site is user-friendly across devices. The primary goal of the project is to support the continued development of ARCvi (Actionable Resources for Change in Violence Intervention), a new, not-yet-launched WordPress website focused on strengthening community violence intervention efforts across Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Web Designer will work closely with faculty in the Department of Criminal Justice and the Public Policy Lab. Job Details- This position is 100% Remote. Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in graphic or web design, digital media, user experience (UX) design, communications, computer science, field.
- At least two (2) years' experience in the information technology or related field.
- At least 2 years' experience with WordPress (themes, pages, plugins). Must have prior web design work experience to demonstrate skills and abilities.
- Experience building and editing websites in WordPress.
- Experience testing pages for usability, layout consistency, and broken links.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience designing or supporting websites for nonprofits, community-based organizations, small businesses, or other mission-driven clients.
- Experience with at least one programming language such as Java, Python, C#, or C++.
- Basic understanding of SQL and databases.
- Familiarity with Windows or Linux environments. Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to use WordPress themes and page builders (e.g., Elementor, Gutenberg, Divi, or similar).
- Knowledge of front-end web design, including page layout, visual hierarchy, and user-friendly navigation.
- Basic proficiency in HTML and CSS.
- Ability to format and upload web content, including text, images, links, and downloadable files.
- Understanding of responsive design for mobile, tablet, and desktop viewing.
- Ability to make basic design adjustments involving fonts, spacing, color, and page structure.
- Familiarity with page builders (Elementor/Gutenberg/etc.)
- Working knowledge of
HTML/CSS
(not advanced)- Ability to troubleshoot minor website issues and make routine updates.
- Familiarity with basic WordPress plugins and site features, such as forms, menus, and embedded content.
- Strong attention to detail in layout and formatting.
- Strong record-keeping, organizational, and time management skills.
- Conscientious, reliable, and flexible.
- Ability to work independently as well as with various teams of people.
