Position Overview This position requires a website developer who can improve, rebuild, and maintain an existing ecommerce website with a strong focus on website structure, ecommerce functionality, technical SEO, and long term search visibility. The ideal candidate must be able to build and structure a website properly from the ground up if needed. Experience with WordPress, WooCommerce, page builders, and SEO plugins is acceptable, but the candidate must not depend only on drag and drop tools or plugins. This role requires strong custom WordPress development ability, including custom theme development and custom plugin development. The candidate must understand how WordPress works at the template, code, database, and SEO structure level. Design skills are helpful, but this is not primarily a graphic design role. The main focus is building a clean, functional, scalable, and SEO friendly ecommerce website. Responsibilities Improve, rebuild, and maintain an existing ecommerce website. Build and modify custom WordPress themes. Build and modify custom WordPress plugins. Build and modify WooCommerce templates, product pages, category pages, and landing pages. Review website structure and identify issues that may affect SEO performance. Create proper ecommerce page structures, including category pages, product pages, collection pages, landing pages, and content pages. Set up proper H1, H2, title tags, meta descriptions, image ALT text, URLs, breadcrumbs, and internal links. Organize product categories and website navigation in a way that is clear for users and search engines. Improve site speed, mobile layout, page loading, Core Web Vitals, and overall website performance. Check and improve canonical tags, sitemap, robots.txt, redirects, structured data, and indexability. Use Google Search Console and Google Analytics to review website issues and SEO performance. Support SEO related website changes, product page updates, content page updates, and technical website improvements. Required Skills Strong experience with WordPress and WooCommerce. Ability to build or rebuild a website from the ground up. Ability to develop custom WordPress themes. Ability to develop custom WordPress plugins. Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. Ability to edit WordPress themes, WooCommerce templates, and page structure directly through code. Understanding of WordPress hooks, actions, filters, template hierarchy, custom post types, taxonomies, and theme functions. Understanding of technical SEO and on page SEO. Knowledge of ecommerce website structure, including categories, products, landing pages, blog content, filters, breadcrumbs, attributes, and variations. Understanding of H1, H2, title tags, meta descriptions, image ALT text, internal links, URL structure, canonical tags, and redirects. Ability to work without fully relying on plugins or drag and drop page builders. Experience with Google Search Console and Google Analytics. Basic understanding of structured data, including Product, Breadcrumb, Organization, and Review schema. Experience with website speed optimization, mobile optimization, caching, image optimization, and Core Web Vitals. Not a Good Fit This role is not a good fit for candidates who only know how to use Elementor, Divi, page builders, templates, or SEO plugins. This role is not a good fit for candidates who cannot write or modify WordPress code. This role is not a good fit for candidates who cannot build custom WordPress themes or custom WordPress plugins. This role is not a good fit for candidates who only focus on making a website look nice without understanding website structure, ecommerce structure, and technical SEO. This role is not a good fit for candidates who cannot explain how category pages, product pages, heading structure, internal links, URL structure, and technical SEO affect search visibility. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate understands that a strong ecommerce website is not only about appearance. A strong ecommerce website must have clean code, a clear structure, proper category organization, strong product pages, correct heading structure, optimized images, proper internal linking, fast loading speed, and a solid technical SEO foundation.
