Supports GA TECH''''''''s OIT''''''''s Web Modernization by migrating websites from legacy Plesk to Sites@GT, working with GT web customers, OIT Web Hosting, and CampusPress to deliver smooth, accessible transitions aligned with standards. Position Overview The Web Migration Specialist supports GA TECH''''''''s Office of Information Technology''''''''s (OIT) Web Modernization initiative by facilitating the migration of websites from the legacy Plesk hosting platform to Georgia Tech s centralized web hosting service, Sites@GT. This role works closely with Georgia Tech web customers, the OIT Web Hosting team, and the CampusPress vendor to ensure smooth, efficient, and accessible website transitions that align with institutional standards and best practices. Local candidates only as the selected candidate will be required to come to the office 2-3 days a week. Schedule TBD.
Required Skills:
( 3-5 years experience) WordPress CMS Expertise Experience building, managing, and migrating WordPress-based websites, including migration best practices such as: SEO preservation (e.g., redirects) Content integrity and validation Accessibility considerations during migration Functional Requirements & Solution Mapping Ability to assess site functionality requirements (e.g., forms, workflows, search, events, integrations) and recommend appropriate solutions using comparable plugins or native features available within the Sites@GT platform, including identifying alternatives when custom or unsupported plugins are in use. Customer Engagement & Communication Strong ability to work directly with customers to: Gather and clarify requirements Recommend appropriate solutions using the Sites@GT platform Clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences Web Accessibility Best Practices Working knowledge of WCAG guidelines and accessible web design standards, with the ability to identify and address accessibility issues during migrations DNS & Domain Configuration Fundamentals Understanding of basic DNS concepts and domain configuration, including setting up and validating site URLs (e.g., custom domains, subdomains) and coordinating DNS updates required for migrating sites to Sites@GT. Prioritization & Planning Ability to prioritize and sequence website migrations based on factors such as: Site visibility and audience reach Technical complexity Institutional impact (high-profile vs. low-profile sites) Preferred Skills Git / Version Control Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems for managing web code and supporting deployment workflows Key Duties & Responsibilities Intake & Tracking Design, maintain, and manage an intake process (e.g., online form and tracking mechanism) to capture and monitor customer requests for migrating sites from Plesk to Sites@GT Customer Engagement & Migration Planning Collaborate with GT web customers to: Assess readiness for migration Prioritize migration requests Plan and execute site transitions in alignment with project timelines and standards Vendor & Team Collaboration Serve as a liaison between the CampusPress vendor, OIT Web Hosting team, and end users to coordinate migration activities, troubleshoot issues, and ensure successful outcomes Documentation & Reporting Document migration processes, customer communications, and site status to ensure transparency, continuity, and knowledge sharing across the teamSimilar remote jobs
