Potential for one remote day per week after onboarding We are a Raleigh-based startup building ecommerce platforms for technical and specialized product markets. We are looking for a highly capable Ecommerce Web Developer & Platform Builder to help us build, launch, and scale ecommerce sites from the ground up. This is not a basic webmaster or maintenance role. We need someone who can take ownership of the ecommerce build, organize complex product data, customize site functionality, troubleshoot technical issues, and create a better customer experience through clean, practical web systems. The right person is part ecommerce developer, part web systems builder, part problem-solver, and part startup teammate. About the Role You will help build the ecommerce foundation for a growing startup, including product pages, technical catalogs, navigation, backend systems, custom configurators, inventory integrations, checkout flows, and customer-facing shopping experiences. Our sites need to do more than display products. They need to help customers find the right solution, compare technical options, request custom configurations, receive inventory updates, and navigate a complex product catalog in a simple, intuitive way. You will work directly with leadership, marketing, product, and operations to turn business ideas into working ecommerce systems. What You'll Do Build, customize, and launch Shopify ecommerce sites from the ground up Help evaluate the best ecommerce platform structure for each site and business need Build product pages, collections, navigation, filters, landing pages, checkout flows, and quote request paths Organize complex product catalogs with SKUs, specifications, compatibility details, categories, variants, and custom product options Build clean backend systems using product data, metafields, tags, filters, search, inventory, and collections Customize themes, apps, templates, and backend settings Build or implement custom product configurators, guided product selectors, compatibility tools, and complex product option flows Support integrations for inventory syncing, back-in-stock alerts, email/SMS tools, CRM tools, marketplace sales, and customer notifications Use coding, platform tools, and modern AI-assisted workflows to research, prototype, troubleshoot, automate, and build faster Improve site speed, SEO structure, mobile experience, search functionality, conversion rate, user flow, and technical reliability Troubleshoot domains, hosting, DNS, platform issues, app/plugin conflicts, redirects, and integrations Required Experience We are looking for someone who can build, test, troubleshoot, and figure things out without needing every step handed to them.
Qualified candidates should have:
Experience building ecommerce websites from the ground up Strong working knowledge of Shopify, including store setup, theme customization, apps, product organization, collections, filters, and backend settings Familiarity with GoDaddy, domains, hosting, DNS, redirects, and basic website infrastructure Experience customizing ecommerce themes, apps, plugins, templates, or backend settings Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and website structure Experience building or implementing custom product configurators, guided product selectors, compatibility tools, or complex product option flows Experience organizing product catalogs, SKUs, categories, filters, variants, and technical specifications Ability to think through product structure, site architecture, search, navigation, and customer flow Strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in person in Raleigh, NC AI & Automation AI experience is valuable, but we are not looking for someone who needs to be an "AI expert" on day one. We are looking for someone who is comfortable using modern tools to work faster, solve problems, test ideas, and support smarter ecommerce workflows. Experience with tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Replit, Zapier, Make, n8n, OpenAI tools, chatbot platforms, or automation workflows is helpful, especially if you have used them to support web development, product organization, customer support, product recommendations, or internal ecommerce operations. Preferred Experience Additional experience with advanced ecommerce customization, APIs, automation platforms, inventory syncing, customer messaging tools, and SEO would be valuable. This may include advanced Shopify Liquid or WooCommerce customization, connecting ecommerce tools through APIs, using platforms like Zapier, Make, or n8n, syncing inventory across stores or marketplaces, setting up SMS/email back-in-stock alerts, working with CRM or customer notification tools, and using Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEO tools, or conversion tracking to improve site performance. Experience with B2B ecommerce or technical, hardware, industrial, or specialized product catalogs is also helpful, but not required. Who You Are You are a builder who likes figuring things out, testing tools, solving problems, and making ideas real. You should be comfortable in a startup environment where the goal is not just to manage a website, but to help create the ecommerce foundation for a growing company. The right person takes initiative, moves quickly, learns new tools fast, and can translate business ideas into working website features. You should be comfortable working with imperfect information, managing multiple priorities, communicating clearly when something is blocked, and understanding that ecommerce is about sales, operations, products, inventory, and customer experience, not just design. Why This Role Matters This person will play a major role in building the ecommerce foundation for a startup. You will not just be updating a website. You will be helping build the system that allows the company to launch, sell, and scale. Work Environment This is an in-office role based in Raleigh, NC. Candidates must be able to work in person Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, with the possibility of one remote day per week after onboarding. Because we are a startup, this role requires flexibility, ownership, and strong communication. We need someone who can move fast, ask smart questions, and build practical solutions without waiting for perfect instructions. Compensation Compensation will be based on experience and skill level. How to Apply To apply, please send your resume and examples of ecommerce websites, web projects, product configurators, product selectors, or guided shopping tools you have built or supported. Experience with Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, GoDaddy, custom ecommerce development, automation, SEO, inventory syncing, or technical product catalogs is especially relevant.
