Contract CPA / Senior Bookkeeper - Audit‑Prep (QuickBooks Online, Homebuilding)

Short‑Term Contract (2-4 Weeks After Tax Day) About Us We are a privately held homebuilding and development company based in Cortez, Florida, focused on high‑quality residential communities. We are preparing for our first audited financial statements and seeking an experienced CPA/Senior Bookkeeper to support our in‑house CPA and help get our QuickBooks Online files "audit‑ready." Role Overview You will work onsite in our Cortez office directly with our full‑time CPA/bookkeeper and ownership team to review, clean up, and document our accounting records in preparation for an external financial statement audit. This is a hands‑on role that requires strong QuickBooks Online skills, construction or real estate development accounting experience, and prior involvement with audit preparation. Key Responsibilities Review and clean up the general ledger in QuickBooks Online, including reclassifications and corrections as needed. Complete bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations through year‑end and resolve any variances. Refine and standardize the chart of accounts for a homebuilder (land, development, construction, WIP, indirect overhead, warranty, etc.). Ensure job costing and project/lot‑level costs are accurately coded and complete. Prepare and document workpapers and schedules to support the audit, including: Cash, AR/AP, and accrued expenses WIP and inventory by community/phase/lot Fixed assets and depreciation Debt and interest schedules Equity and related‑party balances Assist in documenting accounting policies (revenue recognition, capitalization, overhead allocation, related‑party transactions). Coordinate with our external auditors by providing requested schedules, support, and explanations. Recommend process improvements and controls to help us maintain audit‑ready records going forward. Qualifications Active CPA or CPA‑track strongly preferred; experienced senior accountant with strong audit‑prep background will be considered. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including construction, homebuilding, or real estate development. Prior experience preparing companies for financial statement audits (public accounting or private company audit‑prep). Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel. Strong understanding of job costing, WIP accounting, and construction/development cost capitalization. Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to work independently while communicating clearly with our internal CPA and audit team. Able to work onsite in Cortez, FL for the duration of the engagement. Able to commit the necessary time over the defined 2-4 week window after tax day to meet audit deadlines. Contract Timing and Details Short‑term contract beginning approximately 2-4 weeks after tax day (exact start date to be set by mutual agreement).
Expected duration:
2-4 weeks, with a focused, project‑based workload to get books "audit‑ready" before auditors begin fieldwork. Hourly rate commensurate with experience. Standard business hours onsite in Cortez, FL.
