To assist teachers in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Alabama Teacher Certification. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required. Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement. Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students at the designated grade level(s) and in the designated content area(s)/subject(s). Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child development. Demonstrates knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, current educational research and technological tools; exhibits skills in implementing the best instructional practices and varied teaching methods to address student learning styles and achieve meaningful and measurable outcomes in accordance with course of study guidelines and student learning objectives. Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate learning. Models appropriate and innovative use of technology. Facilitates and monitors the integration of technology. Provides modifications for students with special needs, including exceptional education students as required. Selects, develops, modifies and/or adapts materials and resources which support learning objectives and address varying learning styles and backgrounds. Prepares classroom displays, bulletin boards and provides proper room maintenance. Prepares audiovisual equipment and materials for classroom use. Prepares for all academic areas of instruction. Establishes routines and uses appropriate behavior management techniques. Creates a leaning climate that is challenging. Utilizes effective data-based problem-solving skills. Demonstrates effective collaboration skills. Participates in administration of state and/or standardized testing as assigned. Organizes procedures, practices, materials, and routines for the effective use of instructional time and for the completion of administration activities. Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial activities for ELL students. Works with individual students to reinforce any skills initially introduced by the classroom teacher. Indicates prescribed activities for skills not mastered and provides initial skill instruction. Checks prescription work and administers checkout tests to determine skill mastery. Uses ongoing assessment to monitor student progress; interprets and uses data (including, but not limited to standardized and other test results) for instructional planning and program evaluation. Communicates high learning expectations and establishes learning outcomes that are relative to real world experiences. Perform clerical duties as required by the ELL Education Program. Uses appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance the application of critical, creative and evaluative thinking capabilities of students. Fosters responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others through role modeling and learning activities. Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, events, ceremonies, services and programs. Communicates effectively with teachers for informing parents/guardians about academic progress and encouraging participation in parent activities. Participates in workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced coursework, which further advance knowledge of current trends in academic instruction. Engages in personal professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment and leadership. Maintains confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits required reports, records and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies and state, federal and local laws. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
