Summary:

To encourage personal and academic success through individualized student planning. To assist students in making educational, occupational, and life plans for their personal fulfillment.

Essential Duties:

• Assists in the registration, orientation and placement of students through use of parent information, pupil conference, and/or cumulative records as appropriate and available. Orient student and parent to school procedures and varied learning opportunities.
• Identify student needs and cooperate with other staff members in assessing and assisting students overcome health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Confer and counsel students and parents/guardians on matters relating to the student's adjustment to school either by referral, request, or upon review of student progress.
• Coordinate and conduct student oriented meetings, including parent-teacher and student intervention team conferences.
• Assist staff in the reinforcement of appropriate school behavior and provide guidance in behavior management techniques.
• Serve on the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) Team and make recommendations regarding initial and continuing placement of students in appropriate classes and programs.
• Advise administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline, progress and potential for success including recommendations for alternative services and programs.
• Assist students in evaluating aptitudes and abilities through interpretation of group and individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data.
