Position Summary:
The High School Theater Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing instruction in theater arts, including acting, technical theater, and dramatic literature. The teacher fosters creativity, collaboration, and performance skills while aligning instruction with South Carolina academic standards and supporting student participation in performances and extracurricular activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging theater instruction aligned with South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards for the Arts. Integrate performance, script analysis, theater history, and production techniques into instruction. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Assessment & Evaluation Assess student learning through performances, projects, written work, and formative assessments. Maintain accurate records of student progress and grades. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and families. Production & Program Management Direct and produce school theatrical productions, which may include plays, musicals, and showcases. Supervise rehearsals, performances, and technical crews (lighting, sound, costumes, sets). Manage theater facilities, equipment, props, and costumes. Collaborate with administration on performance schedules and facility use. Professional Responsibilities Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom and rehearsal environment. Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events. Support school initiatives and adhere to district policies and procedures. Extracurricular & Community Engagement Sponsor or assist with theater clubs, drama competitions, or related student organizations. Encourage student participation in community and district arts events, as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Drama, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field. Valid South Carolina teaching certificate in Theatre Arts or eligibility for certification. Knowledge of acting techniques, stagecraft, and theater production processes. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Theatre, Education, or related field. Experience directing high school theatrical productions. Familiarity with technical theater equipment and stage management. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout classrooms and performance spaces. Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends for rehearsals and performances.
Terms of Employment:
190 days per school year; Salary based on District Scale for
