Ipswich Educators Association (IEA) Position Overview Ipswich Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified, collaborative Reading Specialist to provide targeted literacy interventions and support to students. This position is partially funded through the federal Title I program and is designed to ensure that all students have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction, structured literacy practices, assessment, intervention planning, Title 1 practices, and collaboration with educators and families to support student achievement. Essential Responsibilities Provide intensive, small-group reading instruction to students identified through data cycles and Title I criteria. Implement research-based interventions and structured literacy/multisensory instructional strategies to support phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language development. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners in 1:1 and small-group settings, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities. Administer, interpret, and analyze universal screening, progress-monitoring, and diagnostic assessment data. Collaborate with intervention teams to develop and implement targeted and equitable instructional supports and MTSS interventions. This will include monitoring student progress regularly and adjusting instructional plans using data-based problems solving. Participate in MTSS/student support team meetings and special education discussions as needed. Provide written progress reports and maintain accurate records for Title I compliance, intervention documentation, and IEP meetings as applicable. Support family engagement efforts through regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, literacy development, and strategies to support reading at home. This will include Title I parent and family engagement activities, such as Title I Night and other required outreach activities. Work collaboratively with the Title I Director (the Director of Teaching and Learning) on all required Title I documentation, data collection, reporting, compliance requirements, and program implementation. Participate in professional learning and remain current with Massachusetts literacy initiatives, evidence-based reading instruction, and DESE guidance related to literacy and intervention practices. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all district, state, and federal regulations and policies related to Title I services. Requirements Massachusetts DESE licensure requirements for a Reading Specialist Licensure SEI endorsement requirement Familiar with family engagement/parent communication expectations under Title I Deep knowledge of structured literacy/science of reading practices (certification in a multisensory phonics approach preferred) Prior employment as a reading specialist for 3+ years preferred
