YesPOSITION SUMMARY
The Tobacco Prevention Coordinator will work to provide services to address prevention of tobacco use among youth, promote tobacco cessation services to tobacco users, eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke, and identify and eliminate tobacco use disparities. This position reports directly to the Prevention Services Director.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with grant writing to solicit Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) Request for Grant Proposal for Tobacco Prevention. Provides grant writing assistance in applying for continuation for Tobacco Prevention Grant and other funding sources. Monitors budget expenses for Tobacco Prevention services. Builds and maintains a coalition local/statewide team and meets once quarterly at minimum. Completes a Media Advocacy Plan and submits annually specifying public education activities to accomplish proposed goals. Participates in regular webinar training series, as well as actively engages in quarterly regional meetings (via teleconference or web based conference). Attends required meetings/conferences to maintain grant requirements. Orders all the necessary supplies, equipment, teaching aids, and materials to sustain programs. Submits quarterly reports to the DHSS for Tobacco Prevention. Submits bi-monthly reports to supervisor for Maniilaq Association Board meetings for Tobacco Prevention. Provides promotion of the Alaska Quit Line throughout the service area. Works toward planning, development and implementation of community awareness events focusing on the effects of tobacco usage, distribution of Alaska Quit Line materials, and education to K-12 programs in service area. Participates in statewide tobacco prevention and control activities. Submits Annual Service Plan to Social Medicine Program Manager for Tobacco Prevention. Travels to village clinics to educate staff on Alaska Quit Line and leads community events in each village focusing on the promotion Tobacco prevention.Job Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field preferred. Ability to work without close on-site supervision, and be self-motivated with a willingness to verbally communicate with large groups of people. Must possess strong technical, administrative, organizational, and financial skills. Able to lift 40 lbs. and travel in small planes. Must complete the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training. Must complete direct patient service hours to receive Tobacco Treatment Specialist certificate. Must maintain certification through process of re-certification/renewal (this will require documentation of 24 CEU/CME credits granted by an accredited organization.)
