Job Description

SUMMARY Cleans, sharpens, repairs and troubleshoots dies for Press Department, tooling for Bolt Department and precision machine parts. Helps Press Department employees with set-up and troubleshooting. Builds and repairs all types, sizes and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Assembles and tests complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Learns and understands part numbers applicable to the department. Plans the setup and operation of various machinery, taking into consideration various materials used in the process. Ability to create simple sketches for interdepartmental communication. Ability to write/edit computer programs offline on laptops or desktops and be able to download them to CNC machinery. Heat treats, anneals and tempers parts as required. Determines specifications for inspection of work using precise measuring and gauging tools. Performs required inspections before, during and after machining. Performs hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Sets-up, runs off and tests dies and production set-ups to produce a product to specification. Programs the CNC Mill, Lathe, EDM, and other CNC machinery. Stays current with new machinery processes and capabilities. Communicates with department Supervisor, workleader and co-workers. Must be able to maintain an average rate of productivity. Reads and interprets work order documents, including blueprints, and processes accordingly. Required to clock in/out electronically utilizing IQMS. May be required to track each job order by tasking in/out electronically utilizing IQMS. Attends and participates in department employee meetings, safety meetings, and general employee meetings as directed. Receives cross-training in other positions as required. Performs all duties in a proper and safe manner while complying with Hughes Brothers and OSHA safety standards. Required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Associate Degree in Machine Tool and Design, Tool Option, or Mold Making Option and experience as a working tool and die maker. Reads and interprets blueprints and instructions. Advanced math skills (geometry, trigonometry).
