PDS Tech is hiring a Tool & Model Maker to support specialized tooling, prototype parts, and advanced machining operations at a manufacturing facility in Ash Flat, AR. Temp‑to‑Perm (W2) Position Overview The Tool & Model Maker will set up, operate, and adjust a wide range of standard and specialized machine tools to manufacture, modify, repair, and maintain precision tooling, prototype parts, and specialized equipment. This role supports new equipment development, prototype builds, and specialized production machinery while working to tight tolerances and exacting quality standards. The position requires close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. Key ResponsibilitiesPrecision Machining & Toolmaking Set up, operate, and adjust machine tools to perform moderately complex machining assignments requiring high precision Manufacture special production parts, prototype model parts, and test equipment components with interrelated tight tolerances (±.001" or closer) Construct, alter, repair, and maintain specialized tooling, fixtures, handling devices, and mechanized tooling Determine machining methods, sequences, tooling, and materials required for each assignment Engineering & Prototype Support Work from routings, blueprints, engineering drawings, quality specifications, and verbal instructions Develop rough sketches and fabricate components based on information provided by engineers or designers Make recommendations to engineering and design teams for design or manufacturability improvements Support development models and equipment under design or trial phases Assembly, Testing & Debugging Assemble, adjust, test, and debug completed tooling and equipment Communicate findings and required changes to appropriate engineering or manufacturing functions Design and build special or temporary tooling as needed to complete complex work Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement Ensure adherence to ISO documentation requirements, including equipment calibration standards Suggest and assist with implementing process improvements to meet quality, cost, and schedule objectives Maintain tools, machines, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition all site safety, security, and operational procedures Leadership & Coordination Coordinate moderately complex assignments with limited supervision Occasionally assist with estimating cost, time, and materials Provide technical guidance to other tool or model making personnel on complex setups or operations Performance Expectations Consistent achievement of quality, cost, and schedule objectives High‑precision workmanship with minimal rework Full compliance with safety, quality, and ISO standards Effective collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams Required Qualifications Advanced knowledge of machine shop principles, theory, and practices Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex mechanical drawings and blueprints Strong understanding of materials, metallurgy, heat‑treat processes, and metrology Skilled use of machine tools, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments Advanced shop math skills Typically 5-6+ years of experience in toolmaking, model making, or advanced precision machining Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting prototype development and new equipment design Background working in close partnership with engineering and manufacturing teams Familiarity with ISO‑regulated manufacturing environments Why Join PDS Tech? $25/hour starting pay Temp‑to‑perm opportunity with long‑term stability 1st shift schedule for better work‑life balance Hands‑on work supporting prototypes and advanced manufacturing technologies Opportunity to make an impact through precision craftsmanship Ready to Build?
