Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
% of Time Essential Job Duties by Category 55%
Law Enforcement Duties:
Conducts and/or coordinates law enforcement patrols within the assigned district. Coordinates, in conjunction with internal/interagency staff, saturation patrols, joint law enforcement initiatives, search and rescue operations, and other public safety/enforcement related activities. Supervises, coordinates and monitors emergency management operations in an assigned district during disasters and emergency situations. Identifies staff training needs and develops, presents and/or coordinates training courses to ensure compliance by personnel with law enforcement officer training and certification requirements. Develops, implements, evaluates and/or supervises special programs, special operations, special investigations or other special assignments in an assigned District. Monitor/coordinate district physical readiness requirement compliance. Maintains knowledge of all relevant statutes, administrative codes, agency and division directives/policies, etc. Confers with local law enforcement, court officers, and state officials concerning department activities. Oversees, conducts, and monitors criminal and administrative investigations. 20%
Program or Position Specific Duties:
Monitors and supervises all District purchases. Act as area representative of TPWD and the LE Division to the general public, customers and constituent groups. Conducts investigations into complaints from the public and other investigations as assigned by the Major. 20%
Supervisory Duties:
Supervision of others to include onboarding, performance evaluations, personnel actions, time approvals, travel voucher approvals and offboarding tasks. Required to participate in supervisory training as assigned by Human Resources and/or divisional leadership. Supervise LE Division commissioned and/or non-commissioned employees. Reviews and completes monthly reports to reflect District operations, activities, programs and equipment use. Plans, assigns, schedules, evaluates and supervises the work of other staff assigned to a District. Completes annual performance evaluations for subordinate employees. 5%
Marginal Job Duties:
Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with Agency, Division and Department rules, regulations, and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree. Graduation from the Texas Game Warden Training Academy.
Experience :
Eight (8) years of experience as a Texas Game Warden from the date of graduation from the Game Warden Training Academy.
Licensure :
Commissioned as a Texas Game Warden by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Must possess a current license as a peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Must possess a TCOLE Advanced Peace Officer Proficiency Certification. Must possess a valid class "C" or higher Texas Driver's License.
NOTE :
Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required licenses and certifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to Law Enforcement. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite, Virtual meeting platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, Webex, etc) and/or Adobe products. Skill in assessing administrative problems and implementing appropriate solutions. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to staff and the public. Ability to interpret and apply state/federal statutes, laws, regulations and provisions of TPWD Code, Texas Penal Code and Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with applicants, employees, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Required to work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Required, as necessary or directed, to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and hours other than regularly scheduled with supervisor approval. Must reside within 50 air miles of the TPWD Laredo Law Enforcement Office.(5119 Bob Bullock Loop, Laredo, TX 78041) Required to operate a state vehicle. Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays. Required to conform to dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures. Required to follow non-smoking policy in all state buildings and vehicles.
